new kitten vomiting

Thanks for your comments, gettingready. I use the word 'breeder' loosely to mean the person whose cats had the kittens. She is a persian cross - but in reality that just means a Heinz 57 as the dad could be anything! Yes, don't registered breeders keep kitten until 3 months?
I agree with your comments. I did the checks I know of and even the vet today said Imogen has no external warning signs. Colitis can come on very suddenly, so I hesitate to say the 'breeder' tricked me as there is no way of knowing and all the litter looked fine and healthy.0 -

She was apparently wormed 2 weeks ago, but the Panacur will help to cover that.
Fingers crossed. Despite the problems she has put on 25g since Sunday. Feel more relieved now she has meds. And this vet was interested in the pics of her poo. I have to collect samples and take them in if her poo doesn't start to improve in 3 days.
Our kitten had very similar symptoms when we got him and within 2 days we were at the vet who asked us stern questions, mainly about age and how he was. Thing is, kitten was fine when we saw him, bouncing around with his brother and mum looked healthy, he was a bit smaller than the other one, but we were told he was the runt (as it were).
Anyways, to the point, vet wormed him, put him on panacur food drops and showed us how to syringe feed water into him (Hamilton was NOT a fan of this) but within 24 hours the change was remarkable and he gained constant weight within the following 2 weeks. The dehydration was the most worrying part - the vet made it look easy, we had yet to learn the technique!
On returning to the vet for checkups and jabs, she was pleased with the progress and mentioned that his system was not ready for the shock of leaving his mum, and despite assurances that he had been weaned, it may have been too soon.
We learned the hard way, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. And the vet trip will have been worth it.
If it helps, keep a chart on the fridge to monitor weight, food, movements and medicine. That way youll be able to spot any issues or follow progress until your next vet trip.
Change is inevitable...nothing stays the same forever

Thanks dw85. I have started keeping a chart actually. It's a good suggestion. My kitten too is the runt. Vet said she's small but thought she was genuinely 8 weeks old. I've seen kittens in the past that have been younger and I've just walked away. I agree about the weaning. Little Imogen keeps kneading me as if she wants milk. Poor little mite. Thanks for your reassurance.0

How's she doing?
My little Harriet had similar symptoms and after a week in hospital, it turned out to be campylobacter. She was put on a course of antibiotics and was much better within a week.I have a simple philosophy:
Fill what's empty. Empty what's full. Scratch where it itches.

I would have been very wary of taking a kitten at 8 weeks - its far too soon. that said, I do hope your kitten makes a rapid and full recovery! as you say it could have been anything and the 'runt' of the litter can often develop problems.
you say she is a 'Persian' cross? I don't know if its relevant, but my pure bred Persian has a 'sensitive' tummy. I cant give him fish or anything in gravy...........causes diarrahea. he is ok with shellfish though in small amounts.0 -
We are still battling. Back and forth to vets and various meds and foods. Had a better poo on Monday night but then back to being runny. Have spent £542 on her sofar, with being hospitalised etc and have had to syringe feed her every few hours. She's eating well now and quite playful. Am at my wits end really now. I am constantly cleaning up after her.0

It's hard isn't it! I had cat diarrhoea everywhere! When I went to visit her in the hospital she wanted to climb up on to my shoulder......it was a bad day to have worn my long hair down
Has your vet mentioned campylobacter? It took us seeing two vets, who just kept her on fluids and monitored her, before the third took a chance on it being campylobacter and prescribed the antibiotics whilst awaiting the stool sample analysis results!I have a simple philosophy:

Oooh. Poor you! Yes my vet has mentioned it. I think she might be on meds for that at the moment. Not sure!0 -
We're back to the vet in the morning. She isn't herself today and has just refused food. Her loos have gone horrid again too. I really don't know what to do next. I'm collecting poo samples for the vet but even she said it may not show up anything. Poor little mite. I feel so awful and stressed about this now. We're into our 4th week of it today.0
