  • Actually, if you manage to get hold of some kefir culture and make something that would seem really attractive from it then that would make the thief ill without being a poison.

:o as the person who inadvertently gave someone a drink of kefir recently without remembering that the first one or two encounters with that might possibly give someone a case of "the sh*ts" and...:o it did. Whoops!:o

My excuse is that they were asking about it, so I gave them a sample and had forgotten the initial effects on some people. Whoops!

So perhaps chicken in a sort of mayonnaise type coating (only the "mayonnaise" type stuff is made with kefir).

Be very careful OP with what some of the PPs are suggesting, however tempting it might be.

Yes, there's some element of the thief taking the risk on themselves, but if you lace the salad with naga chilli's for example then it's clear that this isn't something that any normal person would eat.

How big is your office? Could you make something extremely smelly? I know how anti-social this might sound, but at least you might be able to find the culprit easily.

It does seem very odd if it is only your lunch that is being targeted. Could there be any other reason? I'm not saying it's right but could it be that you're perceived as having enough cash to go out and buy some yourself; could it be that someone is playing a joke or even worse being deliberately vindictive?

I wouldn't recommend sending an email or leaving a note, this could make matters worse especially if this is being doing vindictively.

Take it as a compliment that someone enjoys your cooking!

    xxx

Everyone at work gets paid and how they spend their money is down to them, all they need to know is I find it a shame that I kept getting left with salad.

I would'nt go out of my way to put something into my food which I wouldn't eat myself, Nor should I have to go to the shop every lunch time.
It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun

I'd make something heavily coloured with food dye that wasn't obvious, say a little chicken tandoori or curry with plenty of red dye. It is completely harmless but will stain their fingers/lips and take a day to wash off.....making them easily identifiable!

Asparagus makes your pee smell, so that might help in getting some olefactory clues. Personally I prefer the Ex-Lax approach (Picolax would be better - ask a medical person:D), a bit mixed in with some other scraps of chocolate.

Personally I can't say I have ever had the pleasure of smelling my colleagues' pee

What about popping an old fashioned mousetrap on top of the salad , so the culprit gets their fingers snapped ?

You could try some blue or green food dye and drop a little onto your chicken or tuna. You'll know that it hasn't "gone off" but a thief may think twice before eating a chicken thigh with green highlights on the flesh!

I love the dog food idea too!

you also shouldn't be feeding others at your own expense! Im agreeing with the others to coat some food in strong laxatives.

you shouldn't have to keep your food in your car (what if the heat 'turns' any meat and makes you poorly? food poisoning can be a hell of a lot more than a dodgy belly) and you also shouldn't give the thief the opportunity to steal others lunches if yours isn't available.
sadly thieves and bullies only learn lessons the hard way
