hi,
i recently purchased some items from currys pc world and received an extra free item.
i am looking to return this item as i want to do the right thing,
i contacted them by phone in regards to this matter and no solution was set, i arranged to be called back at 1:15 while i had contacted trading standards to find out what the letter of the law said about me returning this item too them.
upon speaking to trading standards i have to return it, but i can claim the following to send it back:
. Consequential loss - 1 days payment which i will miss out on due to the mistake. (8hours @ 5.09 per hour)
. Packaging materials to ensure the product arrives to them safely.
. And finally signed for insured delivery to the full value of the product with proof of insurance cover sent to me.
i never got that phone call and am going to right them a letter to ensure it is known.
i have a couple of questions regarding this:
1. do you think the requests are reasonable?
2. if i put a time limit on there (say 2 weeks from letter sent date) to collect the item and they do not does it become mine?
3. why are they making it so hard to give the item back to them?!? thanks

1. do you think the requests are reasonable?
IMO, no.
Why would you expect to get paid for a full days work? Surely if you are taking the item to a post office or courier pick up point, you won't have to take a full day off work to do this.
Why not simply ask Currys/PCworld to arrange for the item to be collected from you at a convenient place and time. That way you won't need to take time off work and you won't have to pay for any shipping or packaging costs.0 -

hi, thanks for your comments.
i have contacted them and they said if they where to have the item collected it could be at any time of day which is why i have to claim for a full day as neither they or i know what time the courier will arrive.

Get it picked up from your work, ask a neighbour/friend/family member to have it collected from theirs/sit in yours ?
It should be collected at their cost and your convenience but law expects you to be reasonable in accommodating them. Not going out of your way but not being purposely awkward either (not saying you are being awkward now, just explaining why i'm suggesting the above). You keep using that word. unfortunatly i work at a call center and unfortunatly we are not aloud to have items collected
when i contacted them i asked if i could leave it and they said it needs to be collected from me
i have tried to be as reasonable as i can, but unfortunatly ive litteraly just had 3days in a row off as my company's leave years restart in a week
therefor my only option is too take the day off unpade hense the reason for reimbersment..0 -
I assume it arrived in suitable packaging? Pack it in that then and arrange for it to be picked up from somewhere convenient to you by their courier. Sorted!0

nope, when it was delivered it came in the box along with my items.
the items i ordered where sealed in a cling film in appearence pouch attached to the box.
this was just loose out of the clingfilm.
i (stupidly) did not check the contents and got my girlfreind to put the items in my rucksack and throw out the packaging...
so i wont be seeing that again
they said it has to be collected by me?0 -

Suggest to them you can return it via Royal Mail, My hermes or Collect + at their expense? You just have to drop it off locally wherever is convenient to you.0 -
some of the parts i need to confirm with trading standards tomorrow, but do you think this is a reasonable letter outlining the issue, offering a solution and my rights? thankyou!!!
To whom it may concern.
On the 21st of my 2014 i collected a parcel #.............. from your Cwmbran branch. this contained my items and also a secondary item, an ipad. On the 22nd of May i contacted you by phone in regards to this matter and no solution was set, i arranged to be called back at 1:15 when i had contacted trading standards to find out what the letter of the law said about me returning this item too you.
upon speaking to trading standards i have to give you adequate notice for you to collect the item from me and return it to yourselves. therefore i am writing this letter to enforce what i would have said on the phone if i was re-contacted. i am giving you 1 month to arrange collection of my item from my premises or it will be disposed off. i need to be given adequate notice of at least two days in order to take a day off work so you can collect. Also during my contact with trading standards i have discussed what would be reasonable in terms of request due to the fact i have to take the day off work to wait for you to collect the item and was told the following would be a reasonable request.
Consequential loss - 1 days payment which i will miss out on due to the mistake. (8hours @ 5.09 per hour)
Packaging materials to ensure the product arrives to you safely.
And finally signed for insured delivery to the full value of the product with proof of insurance cover sent to me.
I will also attach images of the ipad which due to being placed loosely in the box originally used to transport it. this has caused a dent in one corner of the apple box, and due to it having no original plastic wrapper i have also taken photos of the inside to ensure there is no parts which are missing.0
