Hello again Co Down mum, I realise that scores will vary from year to year but unfortunately previous years scores is all parents have to go on as a rough guide, so my aim now would be to give as much info as I possibly can, i.e child's DOB, AQE score and raw score when I have it, to help next years parents through this shambles of a system. My daughters teacher told us as a rough guide they need to be achieving 75% in their practice papers to be in with a shot, so we had to use that as a rough guide. It gave my daughter a % to work towards. I agree that a parent should not be disappointed with a score of 106+ and I would also hope they would not show any disappointment to their child. I would hope that anyone who would comment about their child's score being lower than expected (when it is clearly an excellent score) would be pointing out how the whole situation can impact on the kids and yes, it proves that we don't know for definite what scores are going to be for that year. I am truly sympathetic to you, your child and all the children who didn't do as well as they hoped but from reading your post I am sure that your child will do well with your support in any school they attend.0

This is so true. My second child's AQE score was several marks less than my eldest, yet their raw score was actually 1% more.0 -
Could someone tell me what NFER, NILA , NINA etc are. The school my daughter is in does PIES & PIMS & she will be doing AQE in 2017. And SecretTeacher what exactly is the relevance & relationship between these results & AQE results? Because frankly I'm confused!0

Hi working mumof2
thanks for posting your DDs raw scores
So her best 2 tests added to give 102 and her aqe score was 103
Whilst my DSs best 2 tests added to give 103 and his aqe score was also 103 so even though he had 1 more point and is 3 months younger they got same aqe score!
Impossible to figure this system out, isn't it?
However, hopefully you will get your preferred school and hopefully we will get ours.0 -
Yes interesting system -but remember they are only scored against their own age group, not the whole AQE intake.0

The only pattern in scores that I can see so far is that the first paper scores in general seem to be lower. My child said this paper was ok but came out after second paper and thought it was easier! Think the general chat before the test was that paper 2 or 3 was the hardest, so that is a surprise to me, and in past papers lowest score was never first in the set of 3 for my child.0

August Birthday AQE score 98.
49, 50 and 46 which give a raw score 0f 78
I feel all of the children in her age group must have scored high as 78 is a pretty good score. I remember hearing about another child on this forum (correct me if I'm wrong) who in a previous year scored 96 in AQE with 72 being the raw score. I'm delighted with her score though and all being well it will secure her a place in her first choice school.0 -
Like many others, I am sure, I have followed this thread closely throughout the whole AQE process. With a lack of information on so many elements of it, it has been good to see the support and realise others are going through the same thing. I saw that people were requesting raw scores and felt that this was beneficial so have done the same. My daughter who has a September birthday got an AQE score of 118 Her three scores were 60, 54 and 56 respectively. I realise that we are limited as to what can be done with any analysis however I think it will be of some benefit to future years. I have two more children to do the AQE and think that reading about others experiences can be very useful. My daughter in the few weeks before doing the AQE was doing extremely well in the past papers averaging 61 or 62 out of 64 each time. Obviously we have to allow for the immense pressure of having to sit the tests in an alien environment when we are comparing their actual scores. I think all children who did the AQE should be extremely proud of themselves for being able to come through such a shambles.0

Hi Craftyc
I remember that my son was not very happy after the 1st paper due to the tricky words in the English - all the other kids seemed happier but then when he mentioned the tricky words they all agreed that they didn't know them either and had guessed! So that may have been the difficulty with Paper 1 this year.
When my DD did AQE a few years ago, all the kids agreed that the hardest paper was either the 2nd or 3rd (I cant remember exactly) but they reflected that the 1st paper had been easy in comparison!0
