  • Hi Tines2, just wanted to say welcome to the group
  • It's scary to think how many children sat the tests today and that all their scores will be compared to get their final score, with 7285 children sitting the papers it's hard to imagine that to get over 100 they have to be above the average out of all those children!

I'm glad to hear some more info about todays paper from you all and your children... All we got was the first question (25% of 10 hours) and that was it! She finished with 10 minutes to spare and found two mistakes and fixed them when looking over the paper.. Silly mistakes are her main problem so I'm hoping that she didn't make many!

Wow mygirls I can't believe that they allowed children to disrupt the test, I can just imagine how annoying and distracting that must have been for the other children that were trying to do their best. Hopefully the situation is dealt with before the second paper.

Question Has anyone else ran out of practice/past papers? We have used all 18 practice papers we had and all 12 past papers... Now I don't know what to use to keep her going between now and the final test, how much practice work are you all planning on doing or is it all just relaxing now that the tests have begun?

I intend to get my son to do a paper tomorrow, one next Sat, one next Sun & a final paper on Sun 23rd Nov. He will also be doing either 1 or 2 papers in school each week for the next 3 wks.

If you need more papers the website transfertest.com is good & AQE sells past papers as well.

    best of luck
  • Hi All
Veggie - some people say it is useful to repeat papers that the child has done before - they will prob not remember the maths answers anyhow. If they remember some English answers & end up getting an inflated mark so what? One of the most important things at this stage is keeping their confidence up.
And of course I will b looking out all the perimeter & area questions & practising these!
I'm just going 2 do thurs & sat tests plus perimeters & areas - need to keep them in the way of it.

Mygirls, what school did your daughter sit the test? You need to make a formal complaint to the school, and then to AQE.. It is important that you do it sooner rather than later.. And if there was more than one child affected their parents need to lodge a formal complaint also..

    I agree with TrishaM.
The more I I think about it, the only thing that would satisfy me would be to have the offending kids removed from the classroom for the next 2 tests and put into another room on their own. Alternatively they could be separated and put into different rooms. If the school wont do this then you could ask them to move your child to a different classroom to sit the next 2 papers. I wouldn't worry if that means she'll end up in a room where she doesn't know anyone, it would definitely be better than being distracted by the rabble! Sounds like these kids dont want to be there and dont want to do the tests at all. Maybe their parents have pushed them into it. In my view, if they cant even behave at this stage during such an important test, sounds like they'll never be grammar school material anyway. What grammar would want them?

That's awful as if it's not stressful enough for the kids without disruption going on also, I would definitely ask for the disruptive kids to be put into a separate classroom during the next tests.
I'm going to get my daughter just to do so revision today then next week she'll probably do 2 test in school and one for homework she also has her tutor on Thursday which I'll get her to go over area and perimiter with her.
Good luck for anyone who has kids doing the GL test next Saturday.

Just wanted to give you an update. On Saturday I left messages on the answering machine of the school and AQE and both have been onto me. I don't want to mention the school but I have to say they have been fantastic, they are working on an investigation at the moment and working towards a solution. I would honestly not like my d to change rooms as she would feel as she is the one being punished. I do believe the teacher involved is backing up the children's stories so I would feel that is enough evidence to remove the offenders. I do not blame the teacher as it was a very unique situation and I believe she actually stopped telling the children off for fear of disrupting the other. My feeling is there should be a 3 warning rule and at that point the child should be removed from the school. AQE have said if my daughter misses her school of choice by a small margin they would highly recommend using special circumstances. All the other children from her school sitting the test in that room wish to go to that grammar school...my daughter doesn't. I feel the school itself will look favourably on special circumstances but would my daughters choice? Any way I really hope it doesn't come to that. She is sitting the GL as her top 2 choices accept both so fingers crossed

Good to hear Mygirls that the school is taking it seriously, hopefully they will have it resolved by the time the second test comes round. I wouldn't give them 3 chances, I feel they should be warned once and then if the still persist they should be removed! This is too important to the other children who have worked so hard for these tests. I would imagine any school would look at this as a special circumstance, especially since the school is backing up your daughters account (hopefully though ur daughter won't need it). Good luck for GL on Saturday x
