My sons tutor was here tonight and I asked his opinion on the plural of tornado and he said it is tornadoes (in the English language) whilst the Americans spell it tornados - so tornadoes will definitely be marked right but he wasn't sure if they would mark tornados wrong or not! So there's more confusion for us all !
Flymetothemoon - dictionary says both are ok - My DD put ...oes, but I'd be annoyed if anyone got marked down for saying ...os. I guess it depends on what the curriculum says maybe? did they ever get that spelling at school?
And to whoever said that the perimeter and area questions would come up on the next AQE (22nd Nov) - big thanks.0 -
Thanks flymetothemoon hopefully that means she's got one mark at least 😊0

I just asked my sister about the plural of tornado... And she said Tornados. I looked it up in oxford online English dictionary and it provides both (tornadoes and tornados) for the plural. I would be fuming if she lost a mark for a question that has two possible answers.
I know that on the aqe results letter it says their final score and I think their raw score. Then you can contact Aqe office afterwards and request their percentages for each paper, but can you request to get their papers? To know what answers have they have been marked right/wrong for?:hello: Animals are my friends...and I don't eat my friends:EasterBun0 -

Veggie NI.
The aqe results letter my DD got 4 yrs ago only stated the AQE score so, unless they have made any changes, that is alll you will get.
After results have issued, you can write to AQE asking for the raw scores for each of the 3 papers.0 -

Cherryscone - I previously asked the tutor if my son would get any extra marks as his birthday is end of January but he told me that he wouldn't because the extra marks are only given for May and June birthdays (& possibly April).
As my son is much younger than most of his class, I feel that is a little unfair. I have always noticed the gap in maturity and everything between my son & most of his class who are 6 & 7 months older than him.
However, apparently your son should get about 3 extra marks.~We are all going to hell and guess who Is driving the bus~*Norn Iron club Member 294* (Hi, we’ve had to remove part of your signature. Yeah my nephew last year just got his final score, no raw marks or percentages from AQE. I think it would be helpful for them to include the raw marks though maybe they are scared this will open a can of worms as one kid might do better than another in the papers but get a lower mark because of the age standardisation???0

Hi Cherryscone
I would advise just keeping a close eye on his school work and homeworks - make sure he revises well for all his little class tests - especially all the maths. I say this because kids (especially those who are good at maths) can be taught all the maths and therefore have the chance of scoring highly or even gaining full marks in the maths questions however this is not so for English where only a certain amount can be taught. It all depends on what comprehensions etc.. appear in the tests and whether there may be words that they've never seen before. Children simply cannot be taught every word that might appear, hence it is harder to teach them to a level where they could score full marks in English. Personally, my DD is stronger at English than Maths whilst my DS is stronger at Maths than English. I definitely feel that that gives my DS an advantage when it comes to AQE tests.
As for tutoring, this is a personal decision but more and more people seem to be doing it so you feel as though you have to do it too to give your child the same chance. My DS has been tutored once per week since start of October (so just about 7 weeks in total) and it helped settle him after an unsettled September. I was confident in his ability and knowledge before calling in the tutor but was worried he might not be able to cope with the pressure of it all. As I say, he has settled and most of his practice papers in Oct/Nov have been in the 80s with about 5 papers in the 90s so i am just really hoping he will do the same in the real tests. I did ask the tutor when he would recommend people start tutoring (on behalf of my sister whose little girl will be doing AQE next year) and he said Jan or Feb is time enough. Personally, I think you could leave it until after Easter by which time they will have covered most of the Maths in school.
Hope this is helpful
GOOD LUCK TO ALL FOR THE GL TESTS THIS WEEK0 -
