  • Thanks flymetothemoon. I have just asked my daughter about the comprehensions and she agreed that some of the words she had to guess at as had never seen anything like them, she can't remember what they are now. Overall she believes the English was harder than the maths. She can remember the first question as she said she must have read it 5 times before she finally could think about it.

Question 1 - What is 25% of 10 hours? Answer to be given in minutes

I thought this was quite a tough question to start with!

It's a relief to hear that your daughter felt the same way about the English. My son didn't leave any questions out but he said he had to guess a few due to the big words as he had no idea what they meant  and he definitely thought the English was harder than the Maths. And, of course, no chance of him remembering what those big words were now, as he hadn't a clue about them in the first place !!!

I just told him not to worry because maybe most other kids won't have known those words either ( here's hoping )

I agree that that was a tough enough 1st question - but look on the bright side that your daughter read it about 5 times cos she'll have answered it properly!

    Hi Darcy

Do you mean that your son also found some of the English difficult? Did he mention the dreaded big words?
  • All this us to get into a grammar school - but do grammar schools offer the best education?

We also had younger daughter with severe tummy bug but thankfully big sis didn't get, she was up a lot through the night with stomach cramps but could have been nerves. Glad 1st paper over but quite a bit of disruption in class my d was doing test in. These kids had been a problem during the familiarisation so a few parents had let the school know and we were assured it would be sorted. Turns out it wasn't, feedback from my daughter and friends seems to be that the teacher did tell them off numerous times but then seemed to give up....maybe she thought that in itself was disrupting the other kids. I really thought schools would have something in place to manage situations like this but apparently not! My d is sooo easily distracted at the best of times that I am worried that this May have a negative impact on her score. If you look back over past papers the 1st definitely seems to be the easiest in each case and that would be where you would hope they could get a strong result to put them in a strong position. Rant over

    Hi mygirls
what on earth was going on in the classroom today? Ive never heard anything like this. Do you mind telling us which school or even which area?
  • Hi mygirls, I have just read your post and I'm shocked that this behaviour has been allowed to take place on such an important day for the other children. Maybe if the school won't do anything about it, would it maybe be an idea to complain to AQE themselves. Your child and the other children in the class have not been given the same fair chance to complete this test in peace. Also if the children who were being disruptive were wearing uniforms would it be worthwhile to contact their headmaster on Monday morning? I'm sorry this has happened, today has been stressful enough without anything else to contend with. Good luck with the coming tests and I hope this issue can be sorted before then xx

As these are independent tests its nothing to do with the primary schools how children behave- best to take it up with the school the child was sitting it in and AQE. Hopefully it will not happen on the next 2.

Mygirls that is definitely something I would approach AQE about. Your child was under enough pressure this morning without the added disruption of badly behaved children, I'm sure the school would back up your complaint. The AQE may contact the parents of the children involved to ensure that this behaviour isn't replicated in the next 2 tests. Good luck x
