He got a brand new car made to order for handsome discount?
Is that not what he paid for?0 -

Lets just hope the op isn't insured with direct line, they won't even offer cover if a third party who isn't a relation is the registered keeper.0 -
Thank you for all of the replies.
I have spoken to the Fleet Manager at the dealership and he didn't seem particularly concerned that the bogus fleet company were presumably obtaining fleet discounts which they were not entitled to. He's promised to look into it, but won't respond directly to me.
In the meantime, I am still not the registered keeper and I do not have a tax disc or log book. The DVLA have been very helpful and they are in the process of transferring the vehicle to me, but this could take a few weeks for them to sort out because the fleet company aren't playing nicely. I technically cannot use the vehicle in the meantime since I do not have a tax disc to display.0 -
It does seem there were smoke and mirrors used by the broker so that it wasnt absolutely clear that they would be registering the car first.
I would be curious as to who the broker is, as it doesnt sound like one of the big players? They're usually straight up about that sort of thing.
Realistically, i dont think the O/P has a pups chance of getting a full refund and it doesnt look like the broker has any intention of paying comp-pen-say-shun.
So the O/P will be left having to try to fight it in court. Which means putting a monetary value on the perceived loss.
He *could* try getting written valuations from car dealers based on 2 owners or 1 owner, but even IF there is a significant difference its based on selling the car NOW, which the O/P isnt, which then becomes a moot point really.
Personally, i'd chalk it up to experience. I wouldnt let really what is a paperwork issue (not an issue with the car itself) ruin my experience of the new car.0 -

I would say the dealer is in on it. The fleet manager is giving fleet discounts to this broker, based on them buying X units per year.
Why would they care really?0 -

The O/P will have a bill of sale showing they bought the car on a specific date. Therefore they own the car. The rest is just a paperwork blip.0 -

If its not in your name, then its not your responsibility to display the tax disc?0 -
