I paid for a similar deal from Dixons last year (Nov), albeit I only got 4 months free Sky and no little extras.
In the December, I wrote to Sky to say that I didn't want to continue receiving Sky once the 4 months was up. All sorted, or so I thought!
After the 4 months I receved a letter from Sky asking for money. I wrote to them again (18-04-08), pointing out that I didn't have to pay as I'd told them in plenty of time that I didn't want to continue receiving, I even sent them a copy of the front of the Skydeal box where it states that you are not committed to a contract.
Two days ago I received another letter from Sky asking for £128.00. stating that if I didn't pay up they would hand the debt over to a collection agency and that my credit score would be damaged. They also asked why I hadn't contacted them.
Any ideas on how to deal with this? I only bought the thing in the first place for a friend who lives in the Highlands, who couldn't get a decent picture using an ordinary aerial.0 -
Hi Bella Donna
A new thread was started a couple of months ago as so many of us were having problems with Sky - look here http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=711597
It should give you a few ideas0 -

I suggest you see my Post 108 and thereafter in the other newer thread discussing this at:-

Basically email their Chief Exec jeremy.darroch@bskyb.com and AllCustomerCareEscalation@bskyb.com and the problem will be addressed and all invoices cancelled.
It is still outrageous though that they continue with trying to blatantly renege on the original deal unless customers complain to the highest possible level at Sky to stop this happening.
Sky are certainly doing some great free advertising as to why people would be better off getting https://www.freesat.co.uk, especially as that provides HD television viewing and Sky's Freesat product does not.0 -
I have just seen this deal in currys today (may 29 2008) Immediately i thought it seemed a good deal, after checking on here, now i am not so sure ! I have freeview, and this is linked multiroom to the kids bedrooms, if i opt for this deal will it be able to use this exisiting system and remain multi room ?
I still think that for £75 it is probably worth it just to have the sky dish and reciever, in preparation for freesat, but i am still wary of the quality of programmes, and the hassle of sky harvesting prospective customers.
Simple question, Is it a good deal or not0 -

Yes, so long as you schedule and remember to cancel your subscription @ the 3 or 5month marker (depending if you get 4month or 6month deal)0 -

No it will only be supplied to one Sky box in one room for this price but your Freeview points and boxes will continue to operate successfully wherever they are located.I still think that for £75 it is probably worth it just to have the sky dish and reciever, in preparation for freesat, but i am still wary of the quality of programmes, and the hassle of sky harvesting prospective customers.

The basic https://www.freesat.co.uk box is £49 plus installation of £80 or so. So that means it is a little more expensive and no free Sky Mixes for 3, 4 or 6 months. Also Five, Five US and FIVER are not currently receivable on a BBC/ITV Freesat box as they are encrypted and still require a Sky Freesat viewing card to watch them (only possible on a Sky box). Ditto for Sky Three - available on the Sky Freesat deal but not on the https://www.freesat.co.uk one In time the Five channels are however likely to also be receivable on a BBC/ITV Freesat box.
BBC/ITV https://www.freesat.co.uk also has going for it the fact that you only have a program guide and channel numbers for the channels you can actually receive and do not have to wade through endless pay Sky channel numbers you do not receive. However in the Sky EPG you can selecte 50 favourite channels and only view those channels. This comes to more or less the same thing.
The main point is that BBC/ITV https://www.freesat.co.uk are also going to launch within 6 months a £200 or so box that has both HD reception capability and a full PVR hard disk recording facility of the Sky+ kind with Series Link etc and that this is a much better long term bet than a basic Sky Freesat box. Very good 42" HD televisions from Panasonic now only cost around £600 and whilst I know this is a lot of money a television normally lasts around 10 years. There is no subscription cost to watch BBC, ITV or C4 HD television.
My thought would be that by getting one of these Sky deals you are investing in yesterday's satellite technology that is not HD compatible and does not provide an advanced hard drive tv recorder. The BBC/ITV Freesat HD PVR satellite box is going to be better from all those points of view with no ongoing monthly subscription unlike Sky+ or Sky HD. Plus to get this cheap Sky deal you have to do battle with Sky in order to get it to honour the terms of the deal.0 -
Just had an install yesterday at my parents house and they're loving all the extra channels after just being able to view 4 off an indoor aerial. They don't need any recording functionality yet but I wanted them to be future proofed so I asked the sky engineer if we could possibly have a Quad LNB and an extra cable because after the 4 months we were considering getting sky+ and it'd save them from the hassle. He said sure no problem and did the install using shotgun cable and the Quad LNB no extra fees. Think it was the tea and biscuits that did the trick
Not bad for £67.50 (used 10% off dixons code) and now can simply get a bbc/itv freesat HDR when it comes out if my parents do fancy recording stuff. For now they can enjoy the free mixes0
