£75 'No Commitments' Package from Sky Plus free Ipod/Payg Mobile/Phones/Hi-fi

  • After having this package for two weeks we turned on the box today to find that all the channels that should be included in our 6 months free packages were unavailable. _pale_

A call to Sky got through to a clueless telephone operator in some far away country who said they had been switched off because we hadn't signed and returned a contract (which we hadn't received). :naughty:

For now our Sky has been switched back on, and the operator said she was getting something sent out to us. Based on other recent messages in this thread it may be a Direct Debit payment form, in which case I shall protest most voraciously if that's what it turns out to be when it arrives.

Let's see what happens next.

Is this the tip of the Iceberg? Are there more of you out there whom Sky are trying to/are being conned?

Perhaps Martin or somebody else who has the clout could nip this in the bud without us all spending time and money ringing the useless Sky phone lines?
  • Exactly the same thing happened to me yesterday, received 2 direct debit OOOPS! forms and sky turned off in the afternoon. When I phoned Sky they blamed Dixons for not setting up the account properly and said it would be back on within 10 minutes. After 45 mins I phoned again and just as I was connected to the operator it magically came back on!! Will see if it happens again. Popped my direct debit mandates in the bin as soon as they arrived!:j

  • Our 'oops' form arrived today. Not sure what to do -- keep it just in case, bin it now without a second thought, or fill it in and send it off?

I certainly don't want to be paying for the supposedly 'free' 6 months of subscription when it was included in the price I paid for the package.

My Wife called the number on the form, spoke to a clueless foreigner who had no clue what she was talking about and we're both feeling quite disgruntled at this whole process. The phone-monkey even advised to just keep calling back every 14 days each time the signal gets shut off!

Whomever is to blame, be it Dixons, Curry's, or Sky, this is a poor show. :undecided
  • My wife received the oops letter on Friday and called customer services. They said the form did not need to be sent.

We tried to watch Paramount today and got the standard message asking us to call customer services to subscribe. After a long call to customer services, we were told we need to complete the direct debit mandate to enable Sky to collect money when the 6 months is up - even though the pack says there is no ongoing commitment. They also said this was for pay-per-view (reading the small print on the pack did not get me an answer). When I asked about trading standards, I was told this is not a free service and they need our bank details to be able to provide this service - therefore I am wrong to expect I could get away without giving my bank details. I received no apology for having channels blocked (that I have paid for).

I then called 08700 240 777 and explained the situation. The customer services agent apoloised and said they were aware of an issue with the non-direct debit customers being cut-off after 14 days. They have changed our status to one of a 'paperless contract' which should ensure no further letters, or blocking of channels. We were also told not to call customer services about anything to do with our account, as they do not know the product and will automatically generate correspondence asking for a DD mandate to be completed.

I hope this is the end of it, but don't feel entirely confident.
  • Does anyone know if you have to give your bank details when taking up this offer ?

You shouldn't need to. However, as per previous posts, a few of us have experienced issues when no direct debit form has been completed.

Does anyone know if you have to give your bank details when taking up this offer ?

I bought this deal for my Mums Birthday for £75 from Asda a couple of weeks ago.............It was installed within about three days of my call to Sky and everything was fine.
Then, as posted above, today I had 2 identical letters with Oops! Forgotten something........................Umm..............No, I don't think so!
First line on the pack says "What you'll get with this pack"
No contract = No monthly fee.
When I got home from work today, my Mum phoned me to say that all the extra channels on the two packages had gone..........She thought she had messed something up and was worried that she'd broken it.
Anyway I rang Sky and asked what was going on.
The first Scottish lady I spoke to, had never heard of the deal and after 10 minutes of not having a clue, put me through to someone in India I presume.
They'd never heard of the deal either, but took details and said that they'd turned her off because I hadn't paid my direct debit.
I tried to explain that I had bought a pack from Asda for a £75 one off payment which gave us full installation and 6 months of any 2 packages ( Not Premium ) and after 6 months we could either take out a contract to continue with a Sky package or cancel and carry on using the equipment for Freesat.
I think she thought I was making it up!
"You bought it off the shelf in a Supermarket did you ?" she said increduously !!
It says quite clearly on the pack "Pay once watch forever"
If you look at the first couple of posts.........You'll see what the original deal says.
I said I don't have to give my bank details unless ( And I quote from the pack) You will need to register your bank details with us when you call.......... IF you want to get full access to our Pay Per View Events..................Well I bloody don't want any Pay Per View thank you and neither does my Mum....She wouldn't know what to do anyway !
So eventually she agreed that they did not need my bank details, but they'd send me something to sign anyway and turn the channels back on as soon as possible
God knows what they want me to sign, but I'll cross that one when I see it.
Why do they have to make things so damn difficult.........And why don't they tell their staff about their deals..........So unprofessional.
Any others with this problem.................As suggested above, perhaps Martin can nip this in the bud by lodging a complaint to Sky about the hassles that have accompanied this deal.:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:
  • It does seem that the only people who know a thing about the terms and conditions of this offer are the team on 08700 240 777.

I spent nearly an hour on the phone to the general customer services number trying to get an answer as to why I needed to complete a dd mandate. When I called the number above, they said they knew everything about the offer and 'the system' could not cope with a product that has no direct debit details.

It is a shame I've had to spend so much money on phone calls to get this far, but it does appear the only way to get an answer is to call the number that was included in the original registration pack. Either way, they couldn't guarantee I wouldn't lose the channels again as they said it was a known issue (shame it was know known by their own staff).

Recorded letter arrived today with a booklet saying your contracts

Its not asking us to sign anything and there is no DD form, just says you have 6 months free sky...fingers crossed this is it and we don't get cut off again when the 14 days are up again.

Letter has the same contact number you mention Steve.
