Yes, that's a fair point... And then there's the argument of how to 'cost' the internet entries, e.g. if someone buys an internet package for £20 a month that they only use for comping entries, then does that mean each entry costs £20/X entries, etc.
Seems to be the Law in France free generally means free
An Air France compREIMBURSEMENT
Contestants entering the website using a modem or a telephone billed according to communication time or call may obtain reimbursement of their connection fees on the website http://expo.airfrance.com based on a flat fee per day corresponding to the connection cost for 6 minutes of local telephone communication (including VAT) from a landline. The cost of the postage (2nd class mail) incurred by the Contestant for this request by will be refunded. One request per Contestant (same name, same address and/or same e-mail and/or same bank/postal ID details, will be considered valid throughout the Contest.
Given that within the services and technology currently on offer, some Internet Service Providers offer free or flat rate internet connections, it is expressly agreed that any access to the Application carried out on a free or flat rate basis (such as connection by cable, ADSL or leased line) shall not give rise to any refund. In this case, subscription to the service provider is contracted by internet users for their general internet use and the Contestant does not face any extra fees or expenses to connect to the Application and participate in the Contest

are they relaly going to remove all online entries for itv comps? What goes around-comes around0

It's because in France a free to enter competition has to be truely free otherwise it's considered a lotto in which case you either need a licence (which are virtually impossible to get hold of and it's not worth the time or expense to do so);or it has to be administered through either a tabac (who sell lottery tickets and scratchcards); or a bar (which plays Rapido) or a PMU (which is usually bar/bookies).
In all cases you would still need a licence if any sort of payment is required to enter which include expenses incurred to enter said competition.
If it's for charity you are allowed to run a small raffle or tombola without the need for a licence.0 -
Yes Daza has won the Channel 4 one (Deal or No Deal I think)
Nope - my C4/Film4/McCains win was from here (it was via a FB entry)
I won WEEK 6 (just over £3000 in value --- which included £1320 in cash)

I agree I'm not going to be entering by phone anytime soon, if paid premium calls or texts are £1.50. But I did enter for a comp recently that had 25p + standard network rate.
What if ITV reduced the cost of phone entries to comparable with a postage stamp? If it cost the same, which would you choose- text or postcard? And how do you feel about sending 3 postcards for the same cost as one text entry?0 -

I wouldn't do either and as ITV would have to get over 3 times as many paid entries as they do now just to generate the same revenue I cannot see them cutting the cost,0 -

I do like those ones that are only 10p or 25p more than SNR...!What if ITV reduced the cost of phone entries to comparable with a postage stamp? If it cost the same, which would you choose- text or postcard?
i'd go for text over postcard - easier to do, more guaranteed to arrive and be entered.
I only send one postcard, so for me, I pay around a third of a text entry. The convenience of a text entry does not outweigh its cost.
If stamps stay at 62p, then I'd probably pay 70p for a text entry - to me the extra 8p would be worth the convenience of not having to write a postcard / find a stamp / post it.0 -
Less ad revenue from people visiting the website (the ones who don't have ad-blocking active of course) and you can't replicate getting revenue from people sending postcards and envelopes with stamps on. If they're going unlimited entries for paid for entry routes, this is simply a way to increase revenue, something ITV has been keen to do since going down the subscription route for several of their channels and the closure of ITV Play alongside reduction in advertising revenue. ITV would do well to take care if they are going down the unlimited route potentially causing people to consistently enter competitions and run up huge bills - bad publicity is something they would be wise to avoid considering they were central in the phone-in scandals which rocked the broadcasting industry in 2007.I'm still baffled as to how buying a stamp equates to "free" entry.
France has the right idea.0 -

I see your point but nobody has to use their own internet to enter a comp online. If I wanted I could spend all day in the library using their internet to enter 300 competitions, I wouldn't pay a penny for it, but to enter 300 postal comps I'd spend £150 at least.
Also even though I don't use the library computer I use my own, I pay a fixed charge for unlimited internet each month, I don't pay my ISP for each comp I enter. So whether or not I'm entering comps, I pay a certain amount, I don't pay extra to enter a comp therefore it is free. Stamps however aren't included in my monthly package0
