Might be worth emailing ITV for every postal entry you send to make them have to confirm that the entry was received and entered.
Love this idea but I will not be entering - not just the cost of stamps and uncertainty of delivery but I won't normally put my phone number and name on a postcard (yes I'm paranoid!!).
Accept they can have any rules they want but if you are limited to one postal entry (per telephone number) why not just limit online to one per number regardless of the limit for text/phone entries would seem fairer.Don't put it down, put it away - thanks Valli
Thank you to all who post competitions & help the smooth running of the comps board0 -
Aww I was determined to win a biggie lol! I reckon they'll change it back soon.
Don't recall any rule saying lottery winners can't win again... Same thing, surely? Luck of the draw and all that. I don't begrudge someone winning twice, good luck to 'em! Sooooo hard to win one, let alone two or more!
Jx2024 wins: *must start comping again!*0 -

Nice thought but they don't have to confirm it.0 -

Because it's about increasing revenue by getting more people to use the premium entry route and there will be people who will switch to that rather than post an entry who might not if there was still one free web entry.
They also hope to gain by removing the limit on the number of entries per phone number which is more objectionable and socially irresponsible than changing the free entry route. (Deal or No Deal on Ch4 limits to 6 entries and most Ch5 ones are 5 or 6 entries)
(I doubt the free entry winners on IWIWIW and featuring in the MSE e-mail did anything good for free web entry).0 -

You don't have to use a postcard for the current one it can be within an envelopePost – send your entry on a postcard or on or within an envelope0 -
So... the free entry route doesn't have to have to same limit as the paid for entry routes? Never realised that, as don't enter many postal comps.
I thought there was something about not discriminating winners based on their means of entry, but guess that just means as long as there is one entry in the hat for every valid entry, with no indication of how they entered, it's fine.
What happens if I enter once by post, then five times by phone? Am I still allowed my free entry in addition to my phone entry?0 -
Coming back to the question of unlimited phone entry...
If I have a gambling issue, and I'm on a bingo site, I can tell them to lock me out for X days, or only allow me to gamble £X per month.
Does ITV not have to have this same facility?
I expect you're right about the MSE newsletter, MJM... ITV have probably seen a new 'captive audience' that can be better 'exploited' (in the literal sense of the word) for paid entries rather than online entries.
Given the nature of MSE, and the number of people that come on here due to issues with debt / addiction to spending etc, it is grossly irresponsible of them (obviously, they're never going to admit that the 9.5m who read the MSE newsletter, and the proportion of them that started entering the comps, was part of the reason for changing to postal entry).
I hope that MSE will put in the newsletter a caveat now that one has to pay to enter these ITV comps (either through stamps, or phone calls)....
There is an average of 3 or 4 (?) new comps a week at the moment with paid for entry routes across ITV, Ch 4, and Ch 5. (That would increase if Real Deal, etc, go postal).
Now that's a spend, if I enter the same number of times I do online on ITV (i.e. 3 to 5 times, but let's call it four)...
That's £6 a competition x 4 a week = £24
x 52 weeks
= £1248 per year
So, if I enter, for five years, and get a win of £5,000, I am still out of pocket by £1,200...
On that basis, I need to average £6,240 over five years for the amount I spend on those comps, just to break even
This is an extreme example, but even at one entry per four comps, that's still £6 a week, £312 a year... Needing to average c. £950 every three years to break even....0 -
well sod paying 60p to send an envelope with my name and address on it for an extremely small chance of winning a prize.
As jess has highlighted you would need to be very very very lucky to even break even.0 -

While there is an e-mail about the number of free entries the T&C's only appear to restrict entries to one per postcard/envelope they don't stop you submitting as many postcard/envelope entries as you like. It wouldn't be hard to set the T&Cs to say something like there is "only one free entry per phone number and only one phone number per postcard/envelope is allowed.Entries received on anything other than a postcard or envelope will not be accepted. In the case of multiple entries received in an envelope or postcard, only one entry will be entered into the Prize Draw. Sufficient postage must be paid – any entries without sufficient postage will be discounted.0 -
I'm still baffled as to how buying a stamp equates to "free" entry.0
