Need to write a menu for the rest of the week and a shopping list and get back into the game properly I've been a bit rubbish with my menu planning! I know I have to use up sour cream so if I have beef it's beef stroganoff and if I don't it's mushroom stroganoff tomorrow.
Any suggestions for using up courgette for someone who is sometimes adventurous and someone else who only likes to eat it if it's hidden? I have some in my fridge and more coming Friday argh!!!
If you grate it and put it into spaghetti sauce, no one notices it among the mince and onionsKeep reading books!
July grocery challenge START: £150.

No money spent on groceries since Saturday!
We've usually cracked by now and down a mid week shop containing a few treats and extras, but with a bit of extra cooking effort everyone's stomach's are still very satisfied more than half way through the week.

Well so far we have spent £48.43 of our £160. If I was to split the budget weekly it would be slightly over, but that has included to big packs of nappies at £11 so not worried there. Dh picking up a couple of copies of the sun this morning for M's fruit and veg vouchers. Will use them on Saturday so will need a lot less next week! Also, Coop have sent a £5 voucher, minimum spend £5 through the post as I have a membership card (our nearest shop, but only use for top-ups - cutting down there!!) so will be able to get a few bits there next week. That does leave me wondering whether we will actually spend enough for our home delivery next week. I could always stock up on non perishables that will be needed during the month at some point to make sure we reach £25!SCS Carpets 0% finance: [STRIKE]£1331.84[/STRIKE] £132.90

Hi - just in case this helps someone...
Bought 2 Sun Morrisons £5 F&V vouchers (it was as good as it sounded and needed no minimum spend as long as you reach £5 in fruit, veg or salad) and whizzed off to the big Morries a shortish drive away. Whilst there I saw loads of people wandering round the fresh section clutching their vouchers! Most were well dressed, well to do types - just shows that a bargain is a bargain whoever you are!:rotfl:
So for the grand total of £1.04 cash I bagged.....- 4 baking potatoes
- bag of red onions
- 3 large white onions
- small bag of baby potatoes
- pack of fresh beetroot
- bag of baby spinach
- half a cucumber
- pack of pretrimmed runner beans
- punnet of raspberries
- punnet of green grapes
- 3 mixed peppers
You can buy the vouchers today in the paper and spend them for the next couple of days so it may be worth doing that if you have a family to feed.0 -
Our local Morrison's would only allow you to buy one Sun newspaper per person this morning so I got one and DH got one. I will get another one as well hopefully so that will do me. I intend to get some red peppers as want to make some soup next week. We are away at beginning of week for a couple of days so am using up what I can at moment. Just got some left over lamb out of freezer for myself and mum -will use up some veg with it tonight and DH wanted a burger so that's sorted.
Spent £7.70 this morning in A1di. Their chillers had broke so lots of empty shelves however they said they would be back up and running later on today.MARCH £62.38/2500 -
It's a shame but the nearest Morrison's to me is about 20 miles away, so I shan't be buying the Sun.
I have just made my first grocery shop of the month - £6.88 on fish, milk and lettuce.
As soon as I started the challenge I decided to clear my fridge and freezer, defrost both then re-stock the freezer with some batch cooking. I am still at the eating the old stuff stage so I hope I won't spend too much this month.
What I save can then be kept in my grocery purse.
I haven't wasted much this month either. I bought a pack of limes last month and had to throw most of them away. I will buy a single one in future as I don't need them very often.0 -
Hi
I'd thought I'd pop by and say good afternoon (just)
I'm back in the zone where last week my freezer and fridge were full and I was struggling for ideas but this weeks theme is leftovers and what's in the fridge.
I've just had a very filling bowl of last nights leftover stewed steak and gravy with some of the cooked veg made into a soupy stews thing . The veg was looking a bit droopy so I cooked it off and am doing bubble and squeak with a couple of rashers of bacon for tea. There was enough stew for tomorrow's lunch as we'll and then tomorrow nights tea will be home made pizza with the last of the salad tomatoes a bit of bacon cut into chunks on. I've still plenty of cheese and potatoes in the fridge so probably jacket spuds for one meal and cheesy pasta another. Once the block of cheese is open I aim to grate and freeze what's not being used. Apart from fresh milk (we both like a glass at bedtime ) I should be able to go for a least a week without anything else
Thanks for all the good ideas and just knowing you lovely guys are all squeezing the most out of every penny makes it so much easier
Better go
As I am writing this means I am avoiding the ironing
