    PPD state:
Offer applies to UK Mainland only.
Excludes Northern Ireland, Scottish Highlands & Islands,
    Channel Islands, other Offshore Islands,
Isle of Wight & Isle of Man.
So that would rule out the seller - they said they were in Scotland.
Also, would a package containing golf clubs be too long for most courier services - they say a maximum length of 1.2m.

OP needs to check insurances given by contract if sufficient.

Don't forget to mention that you would have bidded less if the postage had been higher on the listing!

OP needs to check insurances given by contract if sufficient.

The problem here though is that the OP is the buyer so doesn't need any insurance if they pay by paypal backed by a credit card. The very fact that the insurance would be only for the sellers benefit means that if the seller is going to be unreasonable they may feel aggrieved that the buyer is suggesting unsafe methods of posting.

Personally as a buyer I would not spend any time finding an alternative postage method, that's up to the seller. Only the seller knows exactly how big the wrapped parcel is and what times they are home for collection purposes. The OP can suggests what he likes, but ultimately the seller needs to do some work here and find a postage method they are happy with.

The seller seems to be pulling on the heart strings. The parents of the 12 year old should take responsibility for their son and send the items to you at the invoiced cost. If they don't want to sell at that cost they should be honest and tell you. Its a lesson learnt and I am sure they would be more careful next time. Might seem a bit harsh but its not the buyers problem and should be sorted amicably if both parties are resonable adults

I have undervalued postage on a couple of occasions and just swallowed the cost. My mistake, so I pay for it. Wouldnt dream of asking buyer to pay for it, nor would I pay if situation were reversed.

Wouldnt allow 12 yr old to list either or would check it thoroughly before submitting it.

I know it's off topic but mh direct have lost their system - it's completely down and will not be back up till at least wednesday. I spoke to them on Friday and it sounds like they've lost thousands!
I do hope it's not all the mse-rs trying to book that has downed their entire system!

I bet if the seller had 'overcharged' for p&p they wouldn't be so quick to offer you a refund for the difference

i have recently undercharged on ebay on two occasions. one was for a heavy item, which i put down a £5 delivery charge in haste. when i checked this alongside the paypal/royalmail services, i noticed my mistake and edited my auction to state that the price was wrong, but if it went over a certain value i would honour the mistake and pay for it myself. it went over this value and i honoured it swallowing the £4odd that i had undercharged by - its only fair as it was my mistake!

the second time was when i added postage rules on ebay. if the buyer bought 2 or more of the item, the postage would change from x amount to 2x-y amount (haha algebra is useful for once!) as a discount. ebay didnt automatically apply this rule as when a person bought two items, it charged only x amount! once again i swallowed it and put it down to my inexperience :) in the future i shall be ready!

but yes my long winded post is just saying that they should pay for the postage they failed to charge, as it was in their error and had plenty of time to amend it before you bid :)

I am not sure i'd want to do business with a 12year old or his mother who is daft enough to let him trade on ebay!

If you cannot reach an agreement ,I'd definitely mention the 12 year old Ebayer in feedback!

I'd like to know if ebay ever do any checks on ages as another poster on another thread was only 15 but had set up ebay AND paypal:eek:

I've undercharged myself a few times, and always met the cost myself.

When purchasing the item you agreed to pay the delivery cost stated, regardless of whether they listed it, their 12 yr old son, or the aligator living in their tree house!

I'm sure when listing they have to agree that they take responsibility for all of the content of the listing? So surely that includes postage??

If you're desperate for the item you could ask them to find out how much it will cost to send and offer them a % of it as a goodwill gesture - but only if they apologise for their mistake! It's not your fault they let their kid use their eBay, so you shouldn't have to meet the costs.

TBH, if they have issues with the postage now after the listing has ended it'd set alarm bells ringing about the rest of their listing. If their 12yr old has made such a mistake on the postage - what else has he got wrong? Do you really want to risk your money on it, when in a few days there will probably be a listing for a very similar item that won't have been listed by a 12 yr old? I think you need to consider more than just the postage now.
