Taking in a lodger / housekeeper

You can get robot hoovers too.
1x robot hoover
1x slow cooker
1x socket timer
Program the washing machine so that it's done for when you wake up/arrive home from work or whenever is convenient. That will save time waiting for the wash to finish.
Have your meal in the slow cooker ready for you when you are home from work.

How many women gardeners / labourers do you know?
All the ones in that line of work I've met seem to be men.
(Real life - not TV shows)
One of my very good *female* friends works as a gardener. I've done conservation work, i.e. chainsaws, tractors etc etc and I'm female. I've also done gardening as a volunteer.
Jeez, just accept you need to do your own housework. For the most part, we all have to, regardless of whether we like it or not. Cooking a meal need not be time consuming, just requires some planning. Housework need not take long. After all, if it's just you and you're not always there, how much mess and dirt will there be?0 -
OP you say that you have a girlfriend. Do you realise that quite a few women would not much care for their man living with a young woman who stays in the place free in return for some chores. You would need to make sure the lodger was fat, old and ugly to get away with it."'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life

That's true. A colleague of mine was looking to get an au pair and whilst he was looking at young attractive females his wife liked the candidates that looked like "The Gruffalo". His words, not mine.0 -

I probably will. I don't mind cooking. But I'd rather spend more time at work and less on housekeeping tasks.
My query is more about any bureaucracy involved. Many people overseas etc seem to have housekeepers. So I became curious as to why it seems rare in the UK.
Obviously our wages / labour costs are higher, but then so are our rents. So does it equal out?0 -

Yes, you're right. I've had housekeepers that fitted such a description in the past and they've been great.0 -
Personally I think the OP sounds like a weirdo, but there we go.0

I don't doubt that.
I was using examples that were more common to my own experiences.
I also think there are advantages to having a man in the house when I'm away.0
