its 3.5 in the tourist resorts at the moment for cash, if you go into a bank in Turkey its usually slightly better than that.

I also work for Travelex... and some of the stuff being said is absolutely ridiculous...

Avoid travelex? we mug you off? well i am actually travelex trading as ASDA TRAVEL MONEY! Who Martin himself recommends!

The reason your TRY was so poor is because you went to thomas cook! Travel agents do not do good rates, because their footfall is always there, they do not need to try for your custom, every person in that store is relevant.

ATM beats every rate in a 5 mile radius, and that includes TC. We even beat them with our regular rates. Your 3.19 was very poor considering our rate is currently 3.3186 in store, without the exchange rate guarantee in place.

Just a shame we cant sell it as there is none in stock....

So think again before tarnishing all travelex branches with the same brush.

i am like you working for travelex but for sainsburys

your right the idiotic comments from the majority

i was only putting it outthere that there is a potential shortage and all i get was idiots jumping on me

no everyone wants to get there money when they get there and not everyone wants a fee free card or a travel card , a lot of people are old fashioned and come into a bureau like the one i work at and hand over a bundle of
£20s and want a bundle of notes in exchange :rotfl:

Nobody's "jumping on you". You don't seem to understand the purpose of message boards like this.

You pointed out a problem - shortage of Turkish Lira in the UK. You gave no solution.

We're giving a solution - wait till you get there! And pointing out that's it's far better value to do that anyway.

Jeez - what's wrong some people? Give them a solution to their problem and they get all huffy :p

Doing the same job as Kernow666, I understand where he is coming from.

I have been recommending to all my customers wanting lira during the shortage to get it over there but a huge majority of them have said they don't want to do that! Well what am I supposed to do then? I currently have 16 numbers to phone tomorrow to advise if we have had a delivery of lira or not. If we don't, well then they're just not going to take my advice of getting it in Turkey and I will get the blame for not being able to order it. From our side, its frustrating when we give the best advice for the best rate and its not taken, and theres nothing more we can do.

Thomas exchange in London has a Turkish Lira. I was looking for Us$ online yesterday and their website says it's in stock. Better rates than travelex etc too.

I wouldn't take their word as gospel. Just because it says its in stock online, doesn't mean its going to be constantly in stock.
The rate I'm selling at today is 3.3055 and we have loads of it in stock as of this morning, but its going down by the thousands every hour and I doubt we'll have any left by the end of the day.
