yes i know that sherlock
i was just saying , some people like to have everything sorted before they go and would probably panic if they went to buy some from the post office or similar and found they couldnt get it
geez whats wrong with people on here :rotfl:
Just to say - I also work for Travelex and we now have it back in stock, so I imagine that most places within the UK do too.....0 -
Am in Gumbet at the mo, and everywhere it's TL3.40 = £. Far better than the TL3.16 that TC gave me over in my local TC a week ago.0

Can I just add, if you go to Travelex you are 100% guaranteed to get absolutely destroyed on the exchange rate.
This whole Lira thing is just a scam so they can up their already inflated exchange rate and then claim supply and demand.
If you do one thing this year that is guaranteed to save you money - Avoid Travelex.0 -

You do realise that Travelex is an umbrella agency?
Ever used Tesco Travel Money? Sainsburys? Asda?0 -

That makes no sense... They can make the exchange rate whatever they want for whatever reason they want. There's no need whatsoever for them to create a fake shortage to justify a rate rise.0 -

Is this trolling?0 -

Changing cash in the most common currencies (EUR/USD) can involve as little as ~0.7% spread on the mid-market exchange rate at one of the cheapest exchange houses. Using a card to withdraw at an ATM will only be cheaper than this if it's one of the fee-free cards, and the ATM doesn't levy a charge of its own (which is the norm in most countries, but in places like the USA or Thailand it can be hard to find one).
My personal record was 0.75gr under the mid-market rate on EUR/PLN. Given that at the time, the exchange rate was sitting at around 1EUR=4.3PLN, it was an incredible deal.
Normally exchange places in Poland will offer to within 1.5gr for large amounts. I went into the bank, told them to transfer 20,000EUR to the exchange place. The girl behind the counter asked why (for the first time...) - and -
The bank told me to hang on a minute, and I was escorted into a back room to have a chat with their main forex dealer. Within 15 minutes, she managed to get the rate down to 1gr under. A quick phone call to my favourite exchange office saw them counter with an offer of 0.90gr. But it didn't end there - the forex guy in the bank made another call, and they came back with an offer of 0.85gr.
Of course, I went back to the exchange office, who were in a state of shock that their offer had been beaten. They sent one guy over to the bank to confirm that 0.85gr was a genuine offer - and immediately responded with an offer of 0.80gr. I thought that would be the end of it - but the bank unbelievably managed to come up with 0.75gr under the mid-market rate. At that point, the exchange office guy (at this point, thoroughly amazed) threw the towel in as they simply couldn't beat it.
The only condition the bank imposed was that we exchange at least 1m PLN a year. Not a problem, as we routinely exchange about 20k EUR a week. The deal is still in place, too. About the only catch is that they take about 15 minutes to process the order, which is quite slow. From Poland...with love.
They are (they're) sitting on the floor.
Their books are lying on the floor.
The books are sitting just there on the floor.0 -
I also work for Travelex... and some of the stuff being said is absolutely ridiculous...
Avoid travelex? we mug you off? well i am actually travelex trading as ASDA TRAVEL MONEY! Who Martin himself recommends!
The reason your TRY was so poor is because you went to thomas cook! Travel agents do not do good rates, because their footfall is always there, they do not need to try for your custom, every person in that store is relevant.
ATM beats every rate in a 5 mile radius, and that includes TC. We even beat them with our regular rates. Your 3.19 was very poor considering our rate is currently 3.3186 in store, without the exchange rate guarantee in place.
Just a shame we cant sell it as there is none in stock....
So think again before tarnishing all travelex branches with the same brush.0 -
Current Mastercard rate is 3.512680. 3.3186 is a rubbish rate, that's over 5% markup on the rate you'd get with a fee free card.geekyncheeky wrote: »I also work for Travelex... and some of the stuff being said is absolutely ridiculous...
