Could just be marked as settled, or could be sent back to the original company to appear again under their name?

Maybe it will be removed completely, but as you've discovered Lowells are deceptive and untrustworthy by nature, so pays to be cautious.

    Thanks so much Fermi.

I have requested they remove it completely.

The default will stay on your file for 6 years from the date it was put on whether it was paid off or not. What does 'closed' mean? Did you repay it or not?

It was really annoying. It was one of those Lowell fraud cases.

Lowell seem to have bought lots of fraudulent debt obligations and put defaults on peoples files. They originated in Nigeria someone bought some stolen identity or some information, next thing a default shows up on someones credit file.

Any way Lowell said they would mark it as closed, but it still shows on my credit file. I wrote a note that Lowell admitted it was nothing to do with me.
