Oh and by the way the reason they give 12 month guarantee on products Is because faults can develop anytime up until that
have you never bought a product where it developed a fault after 6 months and expect it to be repaired or replaced? No?
You expect electrical items to work for a good length of time
And oh yeah if i and water damaged the laptop how come it worked fantastically apart from the sound then? If it was water damaged it wouldn't work plan and simple0 -

I've had damage before through a closed car window leaking, so it's not necessarily a case of bad care.
I've had the laptop 10 month so how can it have been there for 'some time'
My laptop always stayed in my bedroom in a drawer ... no food or drinks are ever taken in my room EVER
I have never taken it out of the house an don't in a car as j don't drive so there no way the can say it's water damage
I am not being accused of something I clearly have not down
And as for the quote of 450 I'm sorry but that's a load of rubbish how can they quote someone a price that is higher than the laptop is worth that's just purely over quoted0 -
Quite a lot of electrical devices will still function (or partially function) after water damage. The water (or more often the contaminants in water) doesnt necessarily affect all components.
You have been advised of your next step, an independent expert report (~£50) then you'll know for sure, if it proves its an inherent fault then go back to Very (as Wealdroam states).
Photos are meaningless as its not external physical damage.0 -

I would be grateful if anyone can share their experiences or advice with me.
I purchased a lenovo laptop from very.co.uk and paid for it using my credit card. The laptop cost me £319
I bought this laptop in Aug 2013 so it's still in warranty. Then laptop started to develop a fault where the sound worked one day but it wouldn't work the next so the sound issue was intermittent.
Due to the fact it was still in warranty i decided to send it off for repair. I sent it direct to lenovo.
Two and a half weeks later they send me a letter stating that the laptop had been water damaged, the mother board has been damaged and so has the battery! I am FUMING because my laptop NEVER had this damage before sending it to them and I NEVER spilt any liquid on it whatsoever I know what for an absolute FACT!
They say I have to pay £450 for it to be fixed which Is quoted more than the actual thing is worth. I'm so upset as I know I didn't damage it
Then they had the cheek to say my options where
1) to pay the fee
2) for them to scrap it
3) for me to pay £44 for it to be returned to me
It's out of order and they are taking advantage of me and now I will be paying my credit card bill off to have nothing!
I didn't damage it no water liquid or food was ever brought neat my laptop and I was the only one who used it
I asked my credit card company for help bit I don't think there is much point is there?
If you want to pursue it, you will need to pay£44 to get it back, and then pay for an independent report.
If it confirms that it a fault under guarantee, then you can take it further.
LinYou can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.0 -
Whats with all the Text speak?
Shudder:eek:
OP you have been given the correct course of action. I have had a Lenovo laptop for 5 years used for work and have had no issues with it whatsoever. Parts for products are at a high price, as this is where the manufacturer makes the money for the company. If you added up the price for all the parts inside the laptop, it could work out to over £1500. It is just the way things are.
Get it back, go to an independent laptop repairer and pay, maybe less then £100 to get it fixed.
Unless you are a troll and want to see how many pages you can get up to, then carry on.0 -

Possibly because the only part of the motherboard that was damaged was the part that has the electronics for the sound controller.0 -
I don't know why you keep saying 'something you clearly haven't done' - we don't know what you've done with the laptop for the last 10 months, for all we know you could have used it in the rain.0

Water damage doesn't just mean you spilt some liquid on it, it can be from humidity.
You would be surprised how many people facebook whilst in the bath, or near a boiling pot in the kitchen.
It doesn't take much to show signs of water damage and void a warranty.0 -
Just to add.. many electronic items have a moisture strip which will change colour if it has been exposed to excessive moisture. Not sure if this is the case with your laptop, but if it is, it is unlikely you will be able to convince them it wasn't you.
As above, it could have been caused by using it in a damp environment i.e. bathroom or kitchen.if your saying it's highly possible to be damaged in my possession then it's also highly possible it could have been damages in their possession also I have photographs of the laptop before I sent it so it should prove it want damaged on my possession
The burden of proof is on you due to being over 6 months since it was purchased.0 -

I have never used my laptop in the kitchen or on the bath lol I'm really not stupid like that
I guess I will just have to accept it ill lose the laptop bit at the end of the day a bit of moisture form humidity that your all stating can not cause a laptop to stop the sound working just like that. I recon it was a manufacture fault and they are using 'humidity' as an excuse because nothing was ever spilt on it and in sorry i don't care what anyone says I know for a fact I did not spill liquid on it!!!!0
