dispute with lenovo laptop manufacturer!!!!! HELP!!!!!!

Options
Hello

I would be grateful if anyone can share their experiences or advice with me.

I purchased a lenovo laptop from very.co.uk and paid for it using my credit card. The laptop cost me £319

I bought this laptop in Aug 2013 so it's still in warranty. Then laptop started to develop a fault where the sound worked one day but it wouldn't work the next so the sound issue was intermittent.

Due to the fact it was still in warranty i decided to send it off for repair. I sent it direct to lenovo.

Two and a half weeks later they send me a letter stating that the laptop had been water damaged, the mother board has been damaged and so has the battery! I am FUMING because my laptop NEVER had this damage before sending it to them and I NEVER spilt any liquid on it whatsoever I know what for an absolute FACT!

They say I have to pay £450 for it to be fixed which Is quoted more than the actual thing is worth. I'm so upset as I know I didn't damage it

Then they had the cheek to say my options where
1) to pay the fee
2) for them to scrap it
3) for me to pay £44 for it to be returned to me

It's out of order and they are taking advantage of me and now I will be paying my credit card bill off to have nothing!

I didn't damage it no water liquid or food was ever brought neat my laptop and I was the only one who used it

I asked my credit card company for help bit I don't think there is much point is there?

How long after buying it did the sound issue begin?

You can't be 100% sure you didn't get it damaged, not unless you have spent every waking minute staring at it since you bought it. (No I don't work for Lenovo).

I suspect you will end up asking for it to be returned, you could get a USB sound card which would give you a sound output option separate from the laptop.

Laptop repairs are expensive. In the same way car parts individually add up to way more than the car as a whole.

I sent the laptop via courier arranged by lenovo

    I didn't damage my laptop

I know for a fact I didn't get liquid on my laptop and I don't have to be sat staring at it to be certain of that

The sound issue developed about 9 months after purchase

I have no choice but to ask for it to be returned, I'm not going to let them greedy people keep it so the can fix it and sell on

To me these people are crooks
making up issues with products to get the customer to pay disgusting charges

I'd be very careful what you start calling these people. What might seem as a flippant forum based comment can still get you in trouble.

And yes, you can know all the facts you want, but the opportunity for it to have happened whilst in your possession is more than possible.

I would assume the courier collection was a box dropped off for you to fill and the laptop was then taken? So custom packaging for a laptop - highly unlikely to be a cause of the stated damage.

Given it lasted 9 months before the issue arose the burden of proof under SOGA is yours - you have to prove it existed from purchase.

You haven't yet proven this and an expert engineer would likely state it was water damaged too so there is no way for you to prove this wasn't caused by you. 9 months use before issue occurred shows, at least on the face of it the fault is not inherent.

You have an option to get an independent expert report to determine the issue, then if the report shows an inherent fault and not water damage then you can revert back to Lenovo.

I would suggest that, armed with a suitable independent report, the OP should then pursue the matter with Very as a claim under Sale of Goods Act.

How can you say to me that I have water damaged a product when I clearly have not

so what your saying is even though I know for a fact there has been no liquid near my laptop I still have to accept that there was just because lenovo says I have

so what your saying is that even though I know no liquids where around the laptop i still have to accept there was

seriously I'm sorry but that's just wrong I think j would Know if i dropped liquid on it wouldn't I

You can't go around saying someone dropped liquid on a product then they clearly saying they have not

if i did water damage something I certainly wouldn't be sending it off to a manufacturer to repair would I

why should I lose my money for something I didn't do

that's why I'm so angry coz I know I didn't get liquid on it

this laptop is kept in welll away from liquids

This is where they think I have no rights because I can't prove it wasn't damages in my possession but I will find away

if your saying it's highly possible to be damaged in my possession then it's also highly possible it could have been damages in their possession also I have photographs of the laptop before I sent it so it should prove it want damaged on my possession

Photos won't be enough, as it could be liquid from some time ago.

I've had damage before through a closed car window leaking, so it's not necessarily a case of bad care.
