Get a Tuppence and Crumble Star Blanket. They are lovely and come in a load of gorgeous colours and are completely indispensable!Mortgage at largest: £250,000 _pale_ (March 2006)
Current mortgage (May 2014): £152,927.100 -
A nice pamper set, shower gel, etc for the mum. When my last boss's wife gave birth I got something for the baby, and a shower gift set for his wife. He told me that it was really appreciated, she'd had an extremely difficult birth (she crashed a few times after the caesarian), and he told me that I was the only person who'd thought bought her a gift.Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j
If all else fails, remember, keep calm and hug a spaniel!0 -
Has advice changed? When my daughters were that age (which was 10-15 years ago!), health visitors were very iffy about baby sleeping bags, and recommended blankets & sheets because it was easier to adjust how many covers the baby had so they didn't overheat.
I do think a blanket is a nice idea, and it can be useful for a few years.0 -
How about some skin care items for the newborn. Babies are often born with dry skin, or develop dry skin. Some soothing, yet nourishing oils, infused with Chamomile/ Lavender plus a natural sponge for bathing, could be a lovely gift.
Coconut and almond are great oils for skin - both mum and baby.

To be honest they will probably get so much passed on or gifts that its difficult to come up with something that they may already have for the baby.
I'd get something for the parents. Picture frames ? Or gift voucher for their favourite takeaway.

I agree with this, a voucher for the mummy to be once baby is born. Just some time out for her to get a haircut or nails done or a feet rub.
But a personalised book for the new baby, or a taggie or blanket with their name and date or birth on it?0 -
Having a 11 month year old....one of the first things (even from just a few weeks) we used to do with her is read books - and now she absolutely loves them!
Sleeping bags are lovely but they easily grow out of them. Books they can keep for a long time/ever.
Soundbooks have been my little ones favourite from a really early age - we bought Room on the Broom and What the Ladybird Heard which she loves - but her favourite is the Munching Crunching Caterpillar - we did buy a few baby books with simple stuff but she has always preferred the ones with noises! Write a message in the front and its something they can keep forever!
But do you know my most treasured things from when she was born are the cards that I received!!! (Amazon vouchers are also very good - as you don't want to go shopping for a while - so home delivery of anything is a blessing!)0 -
A little risque but might give a few laughs: "Your New Baby - An Owners Manual"
Or Babies first year memories keepsake book.0 -
Another vote for a sleeping bag however I'm picky. We only use Grobag sleeping bags, they have poppers under the arms and guide included with them what other layers to put baby in depending on temp of the room. I would personally buy them a 1 tog as that would cross seasons ( suitable for summer and spring/autumn with a long sleeved layer.

We were amazed at the generosity of people and received loads of clothes/blankets and soft toys however a few distinctive presents stood out for us:
- Board books
- Childrens cutlery set in stainless steel
- Memory box
- Wrap
- Swim nappy and swim pants
- Wooden toys
- Feeding cushion
It is lovely that you are taking the time to think of something so carefully.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0
