I love sock ons - definitely one of the best gifts I got.

We also got a sleeping bag as a gift, which we got a lot of use out of, but it was an expensive one. I, personally, would be wary of choosing cheaper ones as I like poppers under the arms as well as at the top of the arms, and not many of the cheaper ones do this (Kiddicare, do, but they are not the prettiest). Also I'd be wary of silk sleeping bags - surely a nightmare to clean.

We were given a nappy cake full of pampers, most of which we ended giving away as pampers didn't suit LO.

Clothes for older babies are great, especially when you realise the baby has grown an inch overnight! But think about the season. Don't by a 6-9 month winter outfit, if baby is likely to be 6-9 months in the summer.

I loved the homemade blankets I was given. Useful for putting on the floor at playgroups or tucking over baby in the pram or car seat.

I'd definitely go with a blanket. Having just had twins, I've been amazed by people's generosity but there are simply too many clothes to be worn.
Mine aren't using sleeping bags but if we did it would be somethig I'd rather choose myself.

    Xmas Saver!
I'd def say a big yes to the sleeping bag, my DD now 11, and they only really came out when she was 6mths old and they were the best investment we made, if your buying for a present then i would go for 12/18mths as this allows growing time and also if the baby is bigger than the parents will get the use out of it.

I think its a lovely idea.

if you weren't posting - my suggestion would be a bits and bobs box...
    (Hit £1 shops, home bargins)
Fold up flat baby change mat
    Disposable bibs
    blanket
    spoons for feeding stage
    dish "
    teeth
    Nappy bags

There little things but that are really useful xx

I find nappies are one of those personal choices - as DD she couldn't get on with some brands, and was Huggies for nappies and pampers for pull ups
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx

Clothes are tricky cos you only have to have a larger or smaller baby than expected and the clothes will be sized for the wrong season if you buy a more than newborn size. Sleeping bag is a good idea but I wouldn't go too big- we used them up to 12 months and then stopped although I know many people keep using them.

I'm in agreement with the sleeping bag. I wish someone had bought me one!!

I got alot of clothes and whilst nice I was given 9-12 month items that are summery (as it will be summer when he's that age), however at seven months he's in 9-12 months and it's still a bit chilly. I think you can try and get clothes to match the season but some babies grow fast and others are really small. I have a couple of friends with teeny babies while mine is bigger... and he's long so anything with feet is done with in two minutes!

I personally would have been really disappointed with a nappy cake. I know they look cute but again nappies can be quite personal to the baby and their shape, thigh size etc.

We got toiletries and my son was allergic. Way too harsh for him and still are now. He can only use aveeno or Plain water so I wouldn't go with that.

I got too many cuddly toys!

I think sleeping bag is a fab idea. A nice blanket is also useful. I liked getting toys too as that wasn't an area I really bothered with while pregnant. Right now my son is into everything so all the toys we got have suddenly really become useful. He particularly likes anything that rolls, pops up or spins if that helps! ( Jack in the box is awesome! )

I second the comment on the size of sleeping bag. I don't think I'll use beyond 12 months. Grobag do a size 6-18 months though which is useful as should they decide to use beyond 12 months they will still have the option with a proper grobag (I bought cheapo ones at first and invested in grobags after 5 months when he got too long)

One of the nicest things I was bought when my DS was born was a 'Baby's first year' book. I loved filling it in and sticking pictures in there :D

My son is 2 now and he gets it out of the drawer on a weekly basis as he loves looking at himself as a baby and I read him what has been written.

He was also bought many, many clothing items and when I had a massive clear out I found so many things that still had tags on and had never been worn. Such a shame as they were all lovely!!

I've given personalised books in the past which have gone down very well.

    Something like this:

I recall they can be found elsewhere for around £10

    Cash / gift vouchers

To be honest they will probably get so much passed on or gifts that its difficult to come up with something that they may already have for the baby.

I'd get something for the parents. Picture frames ? Or gift voucher for their favourite takeaway.

I think Blankets are a good choice - natural fibres being best. also a good Baby Photo Album (or small Brag Book type album).
