People in that situation do need attention to help them to stop feeling so wretched. It's attitudes such as yours that make people scared to ask for that attention and thus go on to actually end their lives.
You seem to not know the difference between attention seeking and needing help, the two are very, very different.
Threatening suicide to seek attention and adulation or as a way to emotionally blackmail people is nothing like attempting suicide as a desperate cry for help when life is so bad that there is nowhere else to turn.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
Yes but is that the right way to get attention?~Chameleon~ wrote: »People in that situation do need attention to help them to stop feeling so wretched. It's attitudes such as yours that make people scared to ask for that attention and thus go on to actually end their lives.
That's like saying if you squat in a house for long enough, it will eventually be yours. Not exactly the right path to get to where you want to be.
Why people rely on others to get themselves out of these areas in life I will never know. Yes, get advice from others but if they can't even help themselves, maybe it is better they were gone. Terrible to think of perhaps but is it prolonging a suffering that could be ended? A tough choice.
One should never assume. Even presuming is dubious these days.~Chameleon~ wrote: »Have you ever been in that situation? No, I thought not!
Here's a good story:
Let's say there's a child in hospital who is desperate for a new heart. One has become available in the next city. The hospital prep her up and get her ready - she is only just in time.
The organ ambulance leaves the next city and makes good time on the motorway when all of a sudden there is a jam. The hard shoulder is not available due to a broken down lorry.
The motorway traffic has been brought to a stop because someone has decided they want to die. By the time the ambulance gets on the move again, the child has died in hospital and the heart is useless.
Life isn't fair, I agree.
But why police don't just say "I'm coming to get you, so you can jump or be arrested", instead of all this far off negotiation I don't know.0 -

If you're going to rob a bank, you wouldn't tell anyone about it beforehand would you?
If you're going to commit some serious fraud, you wouldn't really tell anyone before hand would you?
If you tell people before hand, they have a chance to stop you, whereas someone who is deadly serious about killing themselves will just do it.
People may feel like they want to die but when it comes down to the crunch, they will bottle out - this is the attention seeking type of "I want to die" person.
Too many people say what they don't really mean these days. The term rape has been watered down so much it means so little now compared with what it used to. It's a shame, but hey, it's 2014 right?!
That's surely because A&E is for... erm... accidents and emergencies?
Someone with an axe hanging out of their head is an emergency. Someone saying they feel like they want to kill themselves isn't really an emergency in comparison. Good on A and E departments - it's not their job.
If you think it's possible to stop someone from attempting suicide then in my opinion (yours is equally valid) you're mistaken. Outside of appropriate medical supervision there is very little you can do. I know of several suicidal people who have either attempted to or have taken their own life whilst supposedly being on "suicide watch" by there local crisi team. Unless someone is supervised 24 hours a day you can't stop them. All of the people I refer to had told people how bad they felt.Officially in a clique of idiots0
