  • Can someone please advise me if the funeral was prepaid do I ignore this in box 12 on page 4. I have some extra expenses for the funeral such as order of Service and the funeral tea but it only amounts to a few hundred pounds.
    Many thanks in advance

I would think you would only put in the extra expenses as the prepaid funeral was obviously paid whilst the now deceased was alive and would not be coming out of the estate value.
  • Pre-paid funerals are not to be included, but additional expenses you have incurred and would be expected to come out of the deceased's estate are.
  • Thank you to GSS20 and Gillybilly_2 for your replies.

  • I also have a premium bonds to add on the form. Do I just say NS & I premium bonds and the account number, then the total in the end column. For bank accounts I have added balance at date of death including interest under the account number.
My Uncle died on a Sunday so how do I record his shares? Do I have to say balance on the next day’s date after putting in the reference number.
Thanks again in advance for any help.

As regards the shares - go for either close of business on Friday, or opening price on Monday - whichever is lower.  Unfortunately, I went for the  former choice......!

@JGB1955 - do you know if you have to list the shares individually or can you list the total probate value of the portfolio please?
    Thank you
  • When inserting the amount of money in the bank eg, do you write 10,000 or 10,000.00
also at the bottom of the page when you have to insert the amount carried forward it says 0.00 does that mean that you have to round up or down your total to get the 0.00 in your amount. Hope that makes sense.

Sorry - I can't help  you with that one.  I applied for probate in England, a process which seems to be MUCH easier than the Scottish system.

I inserted the decimal point in my figures as I had pence to account for. If you are using the form online the figures are automatically carried forward but you have to watch as in column 4 you have a sub total of heritable and moveable estate to enter therefore the carried forward total doubles. For example you list property in Scotland first put in colum 4 then list moveable in Scotland listed individually in column 4 then you have a sub heading total estate in Scotland which is heritable and moveable added together and this total is also in colum 4 thereby the spreadsheet  doubles that figure automatically  to be carried forward if you have to use the next page. I was told just to black out the carried forward figures. Your figures should be whatever is in the accounts not rounded up or down.
