As I say, depends on the sector, I'm in manufacturing and we're flat out !! I had a small pay rise 2 years ago and one just shy of double figures last year....(Don't expect too much this year though !!) .. All on the back of sector growth. If there is demand for your job.... companies have to pay the salaries......
Good to see manufacturing doing well and long may that continue. There are some signs of growth locally judging by inquires I am receiving. Great sector to work for.
Saw a number of posts about benefits, the rented sector and slum landlords. They seemed a bit simplistic and frankly optimistic. I don't know of too many people in that sector sitting with empty property. I do know of a fair number of landlords who will not entertain those on benefit. IMO demand is exceeding supply in many areas. So who pays for emergency accommodation and just how much does it cost? I think we need to be careful as the extra costs could neutralise any savings.
Benefit cuts are likely to reward the real slum landlords. Expect an increase in the number of houses in multiple occupation, emergency hostels etc. A truly depressing sector to be involved in, but if you want a truely high return on investment don't supply apartments or houses, just rent out rooms![STRIKE]Less is more.[/STRIKE] No less is Less.0 -
I took a pay cut 2 years ago, no pay rise here, well I tell a lie, when the min wage goes up I'll get a pay rise. Also in manufacturing btw. Manufacturing is improving but certainly anyone I know isn't seeing any of the benefits, only people benefiting are the employers0

Suppose that depends on the job you do... As I said, if you are qualified in a role that is "in demand" then they have to pay more. Goes back to supply and demand... hence the reason there are loads of qualified Teachers working in non teaching jobs and in call centres.....0 -
construction trade here.

some of the prices being paid on site were shocking.
some laugh seeing the 22,000 figures!
i couldnt get a job paying min wage!

also
most of the work ive had over the past several years has been agency work
zero hours contracts etc
quite reflective of a lot of people, even had to try the dole at one point.
the media spin is shocking and too many people are falling for it0
