    Fair point, however I was under the impression that this 1% was on top of an incremental rise?

    You mentioned the NI average wage - what is it?

    It really depends on what you mean by average.

    Full-time or part-time? Combined? Public or private.

    The average public sector salary is £30,000

    The average private sector salary is £22,000

    Full-time average = £23,500
    Part-time = £8,000
    Combined = £19,000

    Is the average salary within the public sector for a FT employee really as high as £30k?

    That's quite eye opening.

    It does seem a lot? I wonder what happened to the move towards cutting salaries in the UK regions. There was some fuss about reducing salaries here to tie in with lower housing costs - haven't heard about it for a while. Probably means it's about to happen.

    I doubt if that would happen as the public sector are such a huge block and implementing such a scheme from Stormont would destroy that particular political party.

    £22k to £30k is a huge gap.

    Well, we're told if the dole is not cut, something else will have to be. Any guesses there? I'd say housing benefit will be the major casualty.

    The dole will not be cut as this is a huge voting block, however I would like the bounty that unemployed partents receive at Christmas to be removed.

    That's not much in the grand scheme. England is getting a dole cut. NI is not (yet), but has been told the money has to be saved some other way. I know some MLAs are btl barons, but housing benefit is a colossal cost, and it would seem a prime cut candidate.

    Housing benefit may not be touch due to the fact that it could have a domino effect - I suspect that they may attempt to level things out by failing to give annual increments which has happened in the past.
