They do Cadburys in most supermarkets now in America. I did camp for a few summers...you might want to check if they have fridges and stuff to keep things in.

I found Cadburys last time I was there (a couple of months ago)..I thought great a chocolate fix...was I wrong...It tasted similar to Hersheys (made under license in the same factory) and nothing like Cadburys should taste

Totally agree with both of your posts there photome. The missus made the mistake of buying some Cadbury in Florida...her face was priceless:D

Fashionable to knock all things American? So we have to pretend to like something we don't? This is a forum whereby discussions and opinions are part and parcel of its nature.

I love the American people, places and food to bits...my fondness for Rootbeer is scary at times:) But Hershey chocolate...

  • Hi,

It is lovely to see so many of our participants being thought about and chocolate is often the thing they miss most….

I completely agree with the Hersheys comment!

I send my american fiancee choclate in post quite often never had any problems. She sends me american choc in post too here.
  • Hersleys chocolate lipoyze their chocolate to stop the milk fermenting and giving the product a longer shelf life and making it more stable. This produces butyric acid as a by-product which has a really bitter taste. Americans associate this taste with "premium" milk chocolate so all chocolate makers in the States add butyric acid to their recipes to suit the American pallette. Also, American chocolate isn't subject to the strict rules on 25% cocoa solids that we have here in Europe and can get away with only 15% I think, meaning the rest is usually bulked out with corn oil (which doesn't feature in European chocolates).

I'm also not a fan of Hershey's regular chocolate bars, but we regularly bring back the dark chocolate/almond and selection bag of Hershey's nuggets and people here snaffle them up - some request them specifically. Dove chocolates are pretty good too.

But in general I agree that chocolate here is better. :)

I totally agree with you. I made the mistake of buying loads of bars before trying one, man was I annoyed:D

Not only does it taste like vomit whilst you're eating it, the aftertaste lingers for ages.

:T :T We thought it was just us, that we'd got a dodgy bar! :rotfl: :rotfl:

Bought a bar of Hersheys, shared it between us, a few seconds later someone said " Can anyone else smell vomit?" - we ALL could!
The smell gets up your nose and lingers for ages!!!!!

We always pack a few bars of Dairy Milk/Galaxy now! :D

I know this thread is 3 years old :o

Forgive me if I'm wrong but I thought you couldn't take dairy products into the US?? Or is it particular states?

Whenever we've been to Florida the stewardess has always come round before landing to take any dairy products off people and filling in the Visa Waiver form you've had to sign to say you were not bringing any dairy into the country.

    Am I missing something here:(
