I love getting surprise parcels:j. I hope yours turns out to be something really special that you can enjoy using, give as a gift or, even better IMHO:o, sell.

No sign of my £50 BACS payment from YouGov yet but Nationwide's online banking website was out of action twice when I checked yesterday. Will try again now, so here's hoping.

    Hi CBC :)

I will let you know what it is tomorrow. I think it's probably just a freebie though - nothing of value.

I hope you get your £50 soon - how long has it been?

I'm in a quandary - should I apply for a part-time job in a toy shop just down the road from me?

    Pros:
    • It's 15 hours a week and this will rise when Christmas approaches
    • It's a temporary position from 28th July until 30th December.
    • It's regular and guaranteed pay
    • I wouldn't be working Sundays
    Cons:
    • I like the flexibility of working from home in that I can help people if they need me (eg, I took my gran to the hospital today)
    • My health is good at the moment and I wouldn't want to jeopardise that by doing a proper job again.
    • I'm not sure what to do about references as I've been self-employed for years now.
Really not sure what to do. The closing date is Wednesday. I know the pros outweigh the cons, but I'm concerned about rocking the boat in terms of my health.

Okay, decision made. I'm going to give myself the rest of July and August. I need to do 100 questions a day to earn £1,200 a month. If I can't prove to myself that I can do it during August, then I will have to get a part-time job as I can't continue earning so little money each month.

I've done 100 questions today and will do for the rest of the month, which will bring in an extra £440.

  • I can see it's a quandary, Emz, but if you are veering towards a 'proper' job at some point a local one and a temporary one at that sounds a great compromise. Plus, a toy shop sounds fun:j.

On the cons side, it will be manic towards Christmas (being toys etc) but that's obviously why they need extra staff.

I can sympathise with your reference problem, I'm in somewhat the same boat myself:o
