I'm 33 now - time I acted like it!!

So, I ummed and ahhed about starting a new diary, mainly because I don't like the title of my old one (which you can find ), but also because I have aged another year in the past week.

Yep, I'm 33 now (no mean feat considering I have Cystic Fibrosis), so I think I need to act my age a bit more.

I moved out of home around 6 years ago now, but I have never been that good at paying my bills. Very often late and I have arrears on my council tax and utility accounts that need clearing. Not to the point where I'll be getting a visit from the bailiffs, but I do need to sort them out. The companies are pretty understanding with regards to my health, but I need to grow up and stop using my illness as an excuse. I live with my OH now and I deal with all the financial stuff. I would get him to deal with it, but he is worse than me!! (we would be evicted by now if he had control - at least I always make sure the rent is paid on time).

OH and I went out for a drink with some friends on Friday night and I was talking to one of them about finances and he shared his spreadsheet with me. He's so organised and I want to be like that. I want to pay my bills on time and be able to clear my debts.

I want to be ore organised in the house and keep on top of my washing etc etc. I want to stop procrastinating and wasting my time playing games on my phone (they have all been deleted). I want to earn a decent wage and be able to start paying more towards the bills (I'm self-employed, which is good for my health, but isn't good for my bank balance - procrastination is a terrible thing!).

So, some goals for the rest of May I think are needed to get me started:

1. Earn £1,000 - this will mean I can start getting on top of the bills from June and make a plan to clear the arrears.

2. Keep on top of the house work and keep the flat tidy (we have an inspection on 22nd May, so this will also save me having a massive blitz the day before like I usually do!!).

3. Make a list of all my debts and bills arrears. Work out which ones I need to clear first (the arrears will be at the top). Any extra money during May can be used to pay some towards them, but the big payments will have to start in June.

4. Start shopping properly. OH and I go out for meals and get takeaways far too often. This needs to stop. OH is lazy when it comes to cooking, but he will eat pretty much anything, so if I make him something at home, he will eat it and we will save loads of money. I need to be stricter with this. OH gets paid on Friday, so I will do a big online shop. In the meantime, I will work out a list of things we need and clear out the freezer.

5. Carry on saving Amazon vouchers to pay for a new bed. OH and I really need a bigger bed. If I can get it by doing surveys and other stuff, all the better.

Thanks if you have read this far!! I'll post every day to keep track of where I am with my goals.

Don't worry Buffy. I'm not going to get any housework done now. My sister is coming over because one of the kids is being sick. She has a real phobia of it and runs away whenever this happens. Keep telling her she needs to seek help for it. Don't know how she would cope if she had a child like me - I was always ill growing up and my mum had to deal with it!!

Weird suggestion of the day, I am a bit like that when people vomit, am rubbish and would often vomit myself! :o

I discovered since having the dogs who throw up loads that if I hum very forcefully whilst clearing it up I am fine!!

  • Lovely new diary, yippee:j

Don't worry too much about procrastination everyone who admits to being guilty of it (myself included:o). All this constant worrying about money and keeping on top of things is so wearing and must be bad for our mental and physical well-being. No bad thing to drift off and give our brains a rest sometimes. Well, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

One of the few plusses about living 'out in the sticks' is that it is so far to go for takeaways or casual meals on a whim and they certainly don't deliver out here:rotfl:. Perfect money-saving solution all round.
