  • You can make a bootable image to a USB stick, Microsoft provide software and guidance to do this (if I recall correctly).

The DVD writer isn't under My Computer? And Imgburn say's there's no Device either, yet I know there was one and there is a green light showing on the front of the DVD writer position. Maybe there was a problem with it before but I can't remember - I'll have to look back on past threads or perhaps try my daughters MacBook again using my Windows 8 file?

Found that this was a problem a while back before I got my more recent PC. Here's part of a post I made at the time on another thread about problematic DVD writers:

"Found this thread relating to similar problem to mine, except the tray won't even open and close automatically (Have used the paper clip in the hole method and opened it manually and then have to push it back in place).
The green light is on constantly and there are sounds suggesting it's doing something but nothing happens on screen - I can't even locate D:/ on under My Computer - it's as if it's been disabled if that's possible?"

I didn't get any response on this so looks like I never resolved it :(.

    MacBook

To mount an ISO file, simply drag the ISO to the left sidebar in Disk Utility. Once mounted there, to burn a CD or DVD, click the ISO file to highlight it, and then click the Burn icon at the top. You will be prompted to insert a blank disk, after which you can simply click Burn again to confirm the disk-writing.

Arbico have come back to me today, they have offered to have a look at the PC to get it back to working order with no charge for Labour as a gesture of good will. I would have to pay for collection/delivery and parts.
I'm very tempted to take up this offer to be honest, what do you think NiftyDigits should I persevere with trying to sort it, I'd hate you to think that I've wasted all your time and effort up to this point?

I've been at this point thinking I was getting nowhere but with all the help received on this thread from nifty and others eventually got laptop and pc up and running again. Quite a nice feeling. Persevere

    Hi NiftyDigits,

As you will probably have gathered, I have chosen to return the PC to Arbico, hopefully to resolve the ongoing problems once and for all. I truly appreciate all your time and effort given to try and help me but regrettably I struggle somewhat due to my limited ability on the technical side of things which in turn means it impacts on time, sleep and everything else connected :(.
This seems the best option I think, just hope the news from Arbico isn't too horrendous .
I'll post the outcome in due course, in the mean time many thanks once again

Just to confirm that my PC is now back home from Arbico (returned within 10 days) and it's working like new! :j
I don't have precise details but I gather the BIOS did need updating which is what we (well NiftyDigits) was working towards. Nothing physically needed replacing so everything was completed successfully within just the cost of collection and delivery which I'm very happy with! :j
I've been very impressed with both Arbico Computers and DPD who collected and delivered the box. They have an excellent tracking system which enabled precise information as to who the driver was, how far he'd got with his deliveries and where he was in relation to our address - it was very reassuring and delivery was within the hour they stated at the beginning of the day! :T

Just need to be a bit more careful when downloading stuff (already got caught out when downloading what I thought was Spotify . which took a while to sort out afterwards - great start :o

    Cheers
