The sim I am trying to use is a replacement by 3, on my original number. The new sim was issued yesterday to try and resolve the problem. Not sure about the network settings you mention, but I have just re installed the 3 sim to my bb, No network is found although O2 vodaphone and Tmobile Uk are available. All show a black cross at the end of the line, and when selected offer only emergency service. I will restore the bb to my Edge network and it will work perfectly. I will restore my 3 sim to my c3 and it will work properly. I am baffled. I will need a new bb to use my 3 sim on, won't I?0

from the information so far on this thread, yes, i'd say so. It doesn't need to be a BB though, any 3G phone will do.0 -
The 8520 is 2G - 3UK no longer support EDGE as it only worked as part of their national roaming agreements, with these ended, you need to replace the handset with a more modern one, or stick with networks that still support 2G.0

Guess that's it then. Thanks everyone for your help.0

So the 'tech' you spent several hours on the phone to never got around to asking you what handset you were using and whether it was 3G? Which if not, will not function on 3 at all.
Not really ASDA's fault then...No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
But about average for 3 lol0

3 DO still have a partial 2G roaming agreement with Orange.

You're missing the point, as they improve their 3g network they are switching off the 2G roaming. As this happened in the OP’s area, they would have seen that a 2g only phone was being used. Which is not allowed anyway on 30
