Haha - sourdough burned to beggary - HFW suggested 15 mins at max temp, not the 40 I went for! :rotfl:

We'll see how it tastes, it has risen very well.

Edit: Omnomnomnomnomnomnom! 3.5 slices later and I have to confess bread addiction. Good 'bubbles', chewy but moist, crispy outside, 100% wholemeal.

Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

Yep, another case of bread envy. I can't eat bread very often, but my supermarket delivery today, I gave in and ordered a small loaf :):):)

Easy as pie (easier). You literally need flour, water, salt, a hot oven and a modicum of patience :T

So back to work and kicking the !!!! of the New Year blues :T

I don't know if it's the baby, the FI discussions, or returning to work and all the gloom that brings, but I am feeling ridiculously focused at the moment! I'm experiencing a clarity of vision that is both calming and exhilarating, although my stoic vision is taking some time to mature in accepting that my vision won't be instant :o

I sat in the office feeling remarkably detached (in a positive way), as the same old !!!!! sailed past me while I smiled and got on with my work. Part of the vision is that I will definitely need to leave my current job as I will never earn enough to reach FI without major sacrifices that aren't compatible with living in a relatively high cost of living area.

£25 MB cashback paid, £10 to S&S ISA pot, £5 to Emergency Fund, made £10-15 from MB offers.

Hope everyone else is surviving the return to the office.
  • Survived, just! I work for the good old NHS and the current talk is all about impending budget cuts and how we might not be allowed to recruit to the posts which will become vacant due to retirement this year. Which means extra workload for the rest of us. Happy days! However, I am determined to try to focus on the good stuff in my life and try to remember 'it's only a job'....

One of the benefits of being self employed is that at least the same old !!!! is of ones own making or at least one gets the benefits of the cash (or otherwise) that brings in.
So whilst I did not particularly enjoy the 5th I am at least focused on developing plans :)

Ok, quick skivedate (that's an update when I should be working) before I throw myself into two solid days of customer report preparation tedium :D

My earlier response seems to have gone walkies...

Glad to hear it, I can sympathise with having to pick up the slack for retired colleagues with no thanks or reward ;)

I know that a lot of it is political/semi-political posturing, but the cuts/additional funds/changes required by the NHS to meet our changing demographic demands are for staggering amounts. In context, Boris was offering £220 million for new homes in London, while the head of the NHS was talking about £8+ billion *a year* needed for expected demand.

At the risk of being branded a crazy socialist, I'd prioritise good things like health, schools and job creation above the usual vanity projects of daft tax breaks and blowing stuff up. Unfortunately looking after people and creating stable (but boring?) jobs aren't glamorous topics in the UK. This affects how I vote, but I'm a realist and realise that my vote seldom goes to the eventual winner :rotfl:

I have always considered self employment, but haven't found my niche yet Watty, I suspect I will know when it arrives. In a funny way, I think that the focus on financials may be keeping me from discovering it. A lot of people manage to start businesses/side businesses based on their interests; it sometimes feels like I deliberately repress mine to avoid lifestyle inflation

Brought forward my next payment to the S&S ISA to this morning, as stock markets are doing their 'up a bit, down a bit, up a bit, down a bit' thing. While I don't believe in stock picking, I will confess to being a sucker for a little bit of market timing. ISA has passed £8,000 for the first time, although I suspect that this will not be the case by tomorrow :rotfl:

Reet, enough noodling, back to work.

    Take it easy all :coffee:

Just be careful Ed with SE ... i tried it ... enjoyed it but found my issues were i struggled to charge so landed up working for free lol ... It's the INFJ in me i reckon, the part that cant watch people suffering... Maybe the answer is ( for me ) do a totally different type of SE something where people are not paying you to ease suffering lol
