Those sound like lovely choices Alex, I am currently reading Olney's 'The French Menu Cookbook' and am salivating

I love France and French cuisine; don't find getting there much fun, though. :rotfl: Should be taking my son to France for the first time since he was very young either at the end of May or in summer. At the moment he is currently enjoying learning a little French and is quite excited. :) Need to get looking for a cottage to stay in.

£10.07 added to savings (£10 Zopa referral, £0.07 cashback). I have a couple of people who I owe money to for their split of the referrals, hopefully they see this and send me a PM! :)
  • Do you calculate your NW including home equity? I'm guessing not?

I went to hospital this afternoon as my foot is still very sore, but nothing is broken (soft tissue damage). I think that my expectations for healing were unrealistic - the doctor I spoke to advised 4-6 weeks based on the extent of the bruising etc.

I did, however, manage to finish my first reading of my current textbook. Perhaps a little slower than I'd have liked (3 weeks), but it is a hefty A4 thing, roughly an inch thick of dense text.

I will need to figure out how to access the additional electronic resources this week and make better use of my bus journeys.

Started sleep training DD last night, so feeling like hell. It was supposed to be disappearing chair, but she is so rambunctious, we quickly reverted to CIO. She was not a happy girl, 3 hours of hysterics :(

We should not have left it so long, we have bought a bottle of wine for tonight's session :o

She starts nursery on the 1st of March, I have paid the first round of fees. We weren't set up with childcare vouchers in time, so this month is full price. We've found a very reasonably priced nursery that gets great feedback, but even 1 day a week with lunch is over £170 for the month

Don't tell the MIL, but Mrs E and I booked days off this week so that we could deal with the fallout from sleep training and support each other. Going pretty well so far - we consoled each other over a lovely breakfast at a newly opened cafe round the corner.

£10.70 paid into savings (a Zopa referral and some cashback). I have been looking at my ISA which has surged in value over the last year and am giving some thought to selling enough funds to pay off all our unsecured debt from house renovations (about £7,000). While I have no opinion on the direction of travel for the stock market, I would have no emotional conflict booking the 22% profit and counting it as a discount on debt repayment. It would leave the ISA sorely depleted, but as we're paying £955/month into pensions, we're still growing our equities fast.

    Thoughts?
  • I have just had the same internal battle.

I have taken the profit in the end from a fund I bought (when I first started investing and had no idea what I was aiming for) that has increased in value and this will pay for a personal course I want to do that is quite expensive and I would struggle to justify paying from savings. This would make me happier than watching the price rise (or fall)

So long as your bases are covered elsewhere I would say go for it!

Enjoy your days off and good luck with the training :)

I think thats a wise use of funds, Ed - I can't believe the stock market is very stable right now, or that it won't get the most tremendous shock when Trump *does* something stupid (as opposed to saying something stupid) or when the in-fighting about Brexit starts to have an effect, or debt levels get overwhelming, or aliens invade ... did I say that out loud? Okay, just Trump, Brexit and debt, then :)

I think that's plenty for the stock market to go nuts about. Though I would like to see its reactions to aliens. ;)
