There was a comedy moment (that I'm only moderately ashamed of) when I was overtaken by two work colleagues in literally the home straight. Unwilling to lose to two vain weightlifter types (think TOWIE), I pulled a sprint out of the bag to beat them, possibly the only one of the race :rotfl:

Absolutely brilliant :T. Enjoy your wine and takeaway.

    I couldn't resist it - S&S ISA topped up - now at over £6k :T

If you'd told me in April that we'd pass £6k before Christmas, I would have laughed. On the not so good side, our savings have slid as the investments went up, so our combined total is probably £8k or so. I'd like to get to £10k by Christmas, with most of the new money going to cash.

Just reading newgirly's thread and she's putting me to shame re. preparing for Christmas, I'll need to start picking up a few easier gifts online this evening. Another year where it's fully budgeted for, thank you good influence of MFW :j

Slept quite badly last night - has anyone else noticed that strenuous exercise has that effect?

    Em, can't say I had, no :o
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

I'm always in too much pain the night after a race to sleep. I always chug a couple of ibuprofen before bed and then have some paracetamol to hand in case I wake up during the night. Who says exercise is good for you?! Well done on the time. My first half was in London (Run to the beat) and it was bloody awful. too many people, had to get there so early, and my sister's boyfriend parked four miles away so had to limp back there, and then get on a train back to Manchester. By the time I got home I'd gone into shock! Now I only do localish smaller ones, much better.

    Anyway, great work.

Just burned myself in a place that no chap ever wishes to be burned as the result of pouring half a pint of tea over my lap while sitting on the couch. Very much a case of 'help ma boab!' :o

An enjoyable, productive day today after an exceptionally busy fortnight at work that has found me really struggling to balance normal work/fun work.
    • Shopping (L1dl and Asd@)
    • Made brine for my roast chicken tomorrow (salt, sugar, lemon, onion, garlic, bay leaves, peppercorns and fennel seeds)
    • Haircut!
    • HM sausage and white bean casserole is bubbling away in the SC for dinner
    • Changed over 100l of water in the aquarium, the fish seem very perky as a result
    • Hoovered
    • Tidied away some paperwork
    • Paid off and closed a credit card account
    • Placed a small matched bet
    • Placed a small real bet on Scotland, like all Scotsmen, I get surprisingly patriotic when we have matches on :D

We're going to stay at a posh hotel in Edinburgh for a couple of nights this week, really looking forward to that. Still, I have a gnawing concern that I can't shake that whenever I leave the office, something will fall into disrepair. I'm not sure that's me taking the right level of responsibility for my own work, or concerns about other people's unwillingness to cover absent colleagues?

Good heavens, that *does* sound productive! Love the distinction between matched bet and real bet - a bit of fun every now and again is ... fun :) I don't think its just the Scots who choose their moments of patriotism, wasn't it the USA with the World Cup this year?

Great news about posh hotel too - your gnawing concern is probably a sign that you're working too hard. Enjoy it!

Just catching up. Congrats on the marathon. All the exercise going on around this board could be inspiring to some :)
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!
