Are you planning to hold LS for as long as possible?

I may try to get my partner to invest in this, my pension is decent enough, I put in 4%, the company puts in 6% each month.... whereas my partner only gets a matched 1% or something awful !

I'll probably be holding it (or something similar) until I die!

Definitely try and get partner on board, your pension is ok, but theirs is dreadful. Not meaning to alarm you, but 15% is considered a reasonable minimum for a comfortable retirement ;)

Hi Ed, how are you, your family and your empire?

I am looking for a bit of advice re calculations, if you get a sec could you look at the last post in my thread please?

    Empire of nonsense maybe :D

We're great, Mrs E goes back to work in a week and DD is 1 on Tuesday :j

I'll certainly take a look at your thread!
I have my US pension pot with vanguard split into age-64 retirement date and age-59 retirement date. So far they haven't changed allocation as far as I can tell, but that's still more than 20 years away. I do like the "set it and forget it" style, though.

They publish the glide paths for equities on their website, so you could probably see when they're likely to change. You're such a young thing that they're probably still at the maximum of 80%? equities and will be for some time.

Yeah, I think they're at 80%. I login once a month to update their value but haven't paid attention beyond that. Hoping not to need any of it as I really don't fancy dealing with all the tax stuff of having a US and UK pension income stream.

Good to see you MCI, I've been AWOL on just about every diary that I used to keep up with, hope to remedy that soon :)

The end of house stuff remains a long while away, but it is at least in sight. I spent £100+ on white paint at Screwf1x last night!

What a weekend - thank goodness I can come into work for a day off! ;)

Party for 25+ was a great success - beautiful sunshine, plenty of great food and drink and everyone seemed to be in fine spirits. DD now has a pile of presents covering a very large coffee table, so I think the inlaws will be inheriting some of her current toys to make space. The party was controlled chaos and it took 3 of us to tidy up, but I got a chance to catch up with almost everyone.

Sunday saw a return to DIY and I've now started DD's room. The Screwf1x supplies are working a treat (as always), although I used 3/4 of the 10l tub of bare plaster paint for a single (not overly thick) coat in her room! I'm trying to do a neat job, cutting in properly and trying to avoid tram lines with the roller. It is amazing the difference paint can make. The plastered but unpainted room with the bare lightbulb was a depressing black hole that sucked up light... even a basic white base coat has made the room seem a lot bigger and brighter :j

We have our plasterers coming back for artex removal and plastering the sitting room at the end of the month, so I have 2 weeks to finish DD's room, strip the ceilings in the landing and hall and strip the sitting room. Not as much time as I'd like

Things have been a bit spendy this week, but everything was either budgeted for, or was paid for in £1 coins from my giant pickle jar :o
    • £100 back from inlaws for their half of DD's car seat
    • £84.12 paid off of 0% CCs (2/4 cards should be paid off in full by the end of May)
    • £15.88 paid into P2P account
    • Few £s of P2P interest withdrawn
    • Spreadsheets not updated, 'twas them or painting :D
  • Have you checked the artex for asbestos? Sure you have.

    Honestly? I haven't :o

Plasterer has 33 years experience, hasn't died yet and seemed quite happy that any asbestos encountered would be 'nuisance dust' rather than deadly biohazard. Am I not right in thinking that most artex up to 19xx something will contain asbestos in some form, and that it would typically be white asbestos for more modern properties?

At 08:36 last year, our DD was born :)

    What a year that was!
  • You are right that the artex is likely to contain asbestos but it is not necessarily the case that white asbestos is safe.

I would not disturb it around my kids.
