Belated happy birthday from another MSE auntie :kisses3:A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

It is lovely to see all the internet aunties dropping in to say Happy Birthday to DD! :j
She is currently suffering with teething and the sniffles, not a happy lass. To quote my Mum, 'comparisons are odious', but I cannot help but notice that she is far less of a whinger than her peers (who are always being afraid of something, or sobbing for some unknown reason). It helps to bear this in mind when she's yelling her lungs out at midnight!
Mrs E gets paid today and this marks the end of a loooong month financially. We have paid off c. £2,500 of 0% CC debt as well as spending £400 or so on DIY and contractors
June will likely see more of the same, with an expected spend of £1,600 with contractors, possibly closer to £4,000 if we get carpets fitted. I'm also thinking that we will spend in the region of £100 on paint (and we also need a lawn mower)   The current plan is for me to take a week off to paint. Which sucks quite a lot, but painters are extortionate and I'm helping to build a better home for my family.
There have been a few bright spots financially:- My increased work pension doesn't really hurt. An extra 2% is only costing £35 or so of 'real' money. Couple with a tiny pay increase, the net difference is c. £20/m
- My P2P portfolio continues to motor along and even reducing the risk slightly and is returning 8.82% after tax (substantially higher if it returns less than £1,000 interest for the year)
- P2P referrals for RateSetter and Funding Circle actually make me more money than MB these days, which is nice (although the people I refer then go on to cannibalise my user base)!
- I have started the arduous process of manning up financially - no excuses for overspends, they come out of my own pocket, no creative accounting

Another belated happy birthday to your DD. :j Doesn't time fly when you are in a sleep deprived haze;).
You are doing a great job on the house. MrGnome renovates property and basically spent a year renovating our house rather than working but the amount he saved us was probably more than he could have earned in a year anyway and that's before you consider the added value.
When you think how many hours you would have to work to pay for the painters out of your net pay DIY seems a lot more attractive.
Good luck with attacking the sneaky overspends.MortgageStart Nov 2012 £310,000
