We've had a Dyson vacuum cleaner for about 7 years, never had any problems with it (OK, probably doesn't get used as often as it should) but I'd certainly buy one again when the need arises.
As for the ecofreakery, you're welcome to that ...2018 totals:

we have one wood burner in the dining room and just purchased (but not yet fitted) one for the lounge.
Love them, produce and amazing amount of heat and dried out our damp old house!
Never paid for wood... but we have a large garden with trees and chopped one every year since we've been here (3) and planted more. Also friends and neighbours pass us their old scrap. We do have outhouses to store it all though.0 -

Ooh, I'm not good on hot composting - I know the theory, but I've never produced enough kitchen scraps, being a single person and allAnd I have questions of my own! Brambles root from the tip ... can I chop them up and put them in my compost? Twigs? Dunno!
I *do* know the main thing is to balance what you put in - if its all twigs, or all grass cuttings, nothing will happen. Air is important, but so is insulation. This is why I like putting whatever I can straight onto the garden
I've just thought, Ed, how near are you to the sea? Any chance of getting a few sacks of seaweed after each storm, you can stick it straight onto the soil, just like they did in Edwardian Farm
And leaves decompose so slowly you don't put them in there at all, you make sure they're really wet, put them in black binbags, tie the top, and poke lots of holes in the bags so microbes and worms and whatnot can get into the leaves and do their thing.

another really good accelerator for compost and the leaves ( really helps with the leaves) a wee cup or two of urine
layering compost is usually the best way .. layer of brown followed by a layer of green etc ... but then after a shirt while you mix it anyway so it doesnt matter too much ... but it does help with getting the balance right
oh and seaweed is brilliant for the gardenand the compost ... also if you do decide on a wood burning fire the ashes are very good for the compost as well as the tomatoes

Nowhere near the sea I'm afraid KC!
Think we can provide a good mix of green (kitchen scraps) and brown (Am@zon boxes!) :rotfl:
Also thinking tumble drier filter fluff would be fine (a la hoover contents?)
And urine, great to find a use for being full of p***0 -

Never mind being full of it, sounds to me as if someone is taking the p***.
...Honestly don't know whether to believe the quoted posts to be serious or not.2018 totals:

We have a compostarium Ed - as named after the one on CBeebies Mr Bloom
- & I really like the way it's reduced our refuse, as well as the garden benefits. We live in a very green (& politically Green) area, we have a green wheelie bin for food waste too & can do loads of recycling. I just put our black wheelie bin out & it's a quarter full for a family of four for a fortnight. I've never really seen myself as an eco warrior, more someone who does their bit, but I value it more as I get older & certainly more as my kids get older
:TLife is changing...but I'm still Money Saving!0 -

Yep I was being serious
Urine is very good for compost ... I have heard so many people say male urine ... but I will admit to not knowing if that is correct ... maybe with females being on contraceptives etc it may give unrequired hormones or something ... but I don't u derstand the male part
