Mrs E has taken DD out to meet SIL, I get a rare couple of hours to gather my thoughts :coffee:

A really busy weekend, with more to follow. Groceries, rubbish and recycling, 3 loads of laundry, baking, cooking and shoe polishing yesterday. Lie in today, a smaller amount of cooking and some fish tank cleaning for my sins.

Shocked? to see that Greece and her creditors failed to reach an agreement, expecting a torrid few weeks for investments. Still, this pales into insignificance next to the tribulations of the Greeks. I was reading that this is the single worst depression in a developed nation since the US in the 1930s
    • £15.83 to savings since Friday
    • £565 to S&S ISA (catch a falling knife time ;))
    • Bond fund topped up slightly more than VLS 60 and 80 funds, but something to each
    • £70 spent on a bottle of whisky. A limited edition from a highly collectable distillery at a discount to RRP. Not to my taste, but envisage it doubling in value within 6 months or so.

    Feeling zonked :o

Ugh Ed really sorry but would you indulge me with a repeat of your Vanguard info? Please?

I have been back in time to before Juliet was born and I can't find it.

It was the company you use and the 60/40 business?

    I know. I'm a dufus.

I use Ch@rles Stanley Direct - great value platform for up to £32k of funds only (fixed fee brokers become better value after £32k). 0.25% platform charge.

Vanguard from the horse's mouth. 60/40 = relatively conservative (aka decent but unspectacular outcome expected?), with the prospect of some growth. 80/20 = riskier, hold for the long term (and pray? :rotfl:) My portfolio is roughly 70/30 (i.e. 50% of each).

Do be aware that there is a chance that the EU is about to fall over

Thanks Ed. In the spirit of JFDI.

If the eu does then for a long term thing will that matter?

Long term, probably no. The Greek economy is small and I am sure that the EU will probably continue to exist long term, perhaps with fewer members. Profitable economies will continue to be so, duff ones will continue to be duff.

Short term? I would expect the non-biscuit form of rocky road. Drip feeding may be the way to go, I would not want to open a new ISA and dump £15k in today.

For all you Excel nerds, just organised my spending diary so that the Pivot Chart shows expense type by year and month for easier tracking. Unfortunately it only works for calendar months, not spending months (not sure how to fix that?)
