You are wrong - totally and especially about the texts that are free to receive even abroad.Monkeyballs wrote: »If I recall, you can have roaming switched off but that doesn't stop you from being charged for receiving texts and pictures as well as updates to your phone? I may be wrong...
If roaming is switched off the phone isn't connected to any network and can't send/receive anything except via WiFi.
If you mean i-messages and data roaming, then you can't receive them without data connection that doesn't exist if data roaming is switched off.
That said, iPhones were known to use small amounts of data abroad even with data roaming switched off. Don't know if this still is the case, but surely this cannot explain consuming 2.5Gb:eek: of data that the OP was charged for (45.9p/Mb). If the phone isn't faulty, this was a result of pure negligence, not "oversight".0 -

Fair enough, I did say I wasn't sure
It was a long time ago (approx 7 or 8 years) when I had problems when I'd gone to Poland and when the bill came through it was close to £100 despite not even having a signal where I was based and when challenged they told me it was updates to my phone and text messages which despite me not receiving I was still required to pay for...
I didn't know any better and just believed them (it was only about £40 more than normal at the time anyway) - you live and learn...

calling SP's son irresponsible is just rude as the whole thing is clearly an oversight
an oversight to the tune of nearly £1200???, yes there must be a better word than this rude word 'Irresponsible' but it was the kindest one I could think of!!

So if he is completely unaware then he is irresponsible? A bit like those kids who rack up debts playing "free" games on their parents iPads are irresponsible?
Maybe oversight is the wrong word but calling them irresponsible is rude IMO.

Just a random thought, as not sure if Vodafone will pay it any mind even if you do get one, but it might be cheaper to fund an expert report confirming whether or not data roaming was off the entire time. If it backs up your story, you might have a decent argument.
Without proof they're just going to assume you had roaming switched on and you're trying to worm your way out of it now. What will your verse be?

why not turn the phone off completely???
You're on a family holiday and the kids have their faces buried in their phones...
I suppose if the kids are hypnotised by their apple devices it means the parents can get pi55ed out their faces every night without worrying about what the kids are up to.......We’ve had to remove your signature. You're wrong. The parents have their faces burried in their phones and the kids copy; or perhaps I'm wrong and it's the other way round.... God, imagine actually looking where you're going/driving and conducting a conversation where you can look someone in the eye. Perhaps I'm just from the stone age...0

You seem like a very bitter person passing judgement on people you don't know anything about. What will your verse be?

I live in York which is a beautiful tourist city and is swamped by tourists wandering around waving their phones and tablets around in front of them making videos and taking snaps of their visit... Soooooooooo annoying!!! But that's life
Mobile devices are designed to be multi purpose and... mobile?
I'm not saying that folk don't call, text, tweet, browse and game but that's hardly the whole story is it?
