Excuse me if I am wrong, but does "Data Roaming" not mean using data services that is on a different network rather than your home network, not whether it is a different country?

So if you are with Vodafone UK, and travel to Spain, and your phone then connects to Vodafone Spain, then is this still classed as the same home network?

So even if you had data roaming turned off, it would not apply as the phone still see's it as the home network?

Because the parents of the irresponsible son don't have money to pay for iPhone upfront?
  • My irresponsible son, as you call him, didn't even realise that roaming applied, as it WAS TURNED OFF!. Having an £800 bill in 2010 in my eyes does not qualify them to think that I would want to do this again!

I don’t understand why parents give their KIDS contractphones. Why not just PAYG?

What happens if you push this button?

No, but it does show that the account holder (you) sometimes runs up larger than normal bills.

Don't forget they did warn you at £400, which you then proceeded to ignore.

Follow the instructions Lee has put in his post above, and see if he can help you at all.

If data roaming was turned off all the time then there wouldn't have been a huge data roaming bill. If you didn't turn it on, then he must have.

Children should never be allowed unsupervised access to a contract phone. It is like giving then access to your credit card and pin. He must have really hammered it to run up this bill. But this is exactly what children do when allowed near contract phones.

There are so many posts where this happens and none of this would happen if children were restricted to PAYG.

Sell your son's phone to pay off some of the bill and plead for some form of goodwill discount on the rest.

Hmmm, a lot of negativity here and calling SP's son irresponsible is just rude as the whole thing is clearly an oversight (even if it could have been capped at £400) nobody on here knows anything about her or her son whom presumably has all the allowance they need on the tarrif they are on!

Personally, I'm not a fan of Vodafone... I used to think they were great about 10 years ago but they (as have others) have gone down hill :(

If I recall, you can have roaming switched off but that doesn't stop you from being charged for receiving texts and pictures as well as updates to your phone? I may be wrong so someone may want to correct me...
