They didn't mind I had a default as it was satisfied but I failed as I had too many recent credit searches.0

I failed the credit check, I think the crb check has still to come back so don't know the outcome of the job yet.0

Some companies really do take to p***. How can you "fail" a credit check on an issue that's not primarily credit-related, !!!!!!! Did they not think of asking why there were the so-called searches?0 -
Credit searches aren't credit related? That's new one...0

Okay, I'll write it in simpler language if that will help:
Applying for a job is not the same thing as applying for credit. Tesco Bank are not carrying out a "credit check" to see if this guy will pay back some money they may lend him. They are doing it mostly out of nosiness, or as they would say, "to give a us a more rounded picture of the individual".
Alternatively:
Should we lend him money? Do a credit check to find out if he's a good payer.
Should we give him a job? Do a credit check to see if he's, well ... let's just have a look, eh?0 -
What you typed is irrelevant. It's also irrelevant what you 'think' If Tesco want/need to carry out a credit check to offer a job in a financial position, they can with permission. Most other banks carry out credit checks to see whether the potential employee is finacially responsible. Would you take financial advice from someone with a bad credit history?0

They would still need your approval to check your report.
Yes and no approval, no job anyway. Some companies really do take to p***. How can you "fail" a credit check on an issue that's not primarily credit-related, !!!!!!! Did they not think of asking why there were the so-called searches?

No it's not nosiness. The financial industry is believe it or not heavily regulated when it comes to who they can and can't employ. A healthy credit file and a risk assessment on ones credit history is important. Due to the nature of the job, and the access people can have, people are more open to fraud. So risks would be corruption, what's their criminal history like? People blackmailing them to syphon off funds. Fraud. Are they in debt? Lots of it? Bad recent history? Do they seem desperate for credit?
Could it be they would risk syphoning off money if they seem desperate for credit?
Plus as well as above, depending on the role, people have to have a good credit history. Financial advice for example.
Some banks will offer people jobs who fail the credit checks, but maybe different departments, some may not at all.
Yes op financial institutions who report to CRA's can pull your full report.0 -
Gingerknob seems to have this belief that corporations just search random people for sh*ts and giggles, or no apparent reason, when business is slow and the office needs perking up a bit.0

I think that's what I said, but more succinctly than you: "They are doing it mostly out of nosiness, or as they would say, 'to give a us a more rounded picture of the individual'". Which is about the same as you said.
Classic scope creep. Credit reference agencies were set up to assess borrowers' history of paying debt, with a view to providing further debt. They weren't set up to enable potential employers to poke around in someone's finances. But that's just what happens now. And it's not only banks. Even supermarkets carry out a credit check on the shelf stacker.
Gordon Hose, your banality is eye watering. Grow up, and god preserve us if you work in the finance industry!0
