The NowTV services should be included in this thread now as it is the new kid on the block.
I think it is miles behind the technology of Netflix/Lovefilm in terms of streaming stability but the film choice is identical to a Sky Movies package and at £9.99 (from January 2015) isn't bad value, although they have much less back catalogue of older films, its all geared to newer ones.
But the multi-billion empire that is Fox/Sky do need to invest in perhaps one more server and some more bandwidth because the service does struggle to cope.Anger ruins joy, it steals the goodness of my mind. Forces me to say terrible things. Overcoming anger brings peace of mind, a mind without regret. If I overcome anger, I will be delightful and loved by everyone.0 -

Cancelled and spent the cash buying the dvds instead, Want to try net flix at some point but no idea how streaming films gets onto my TV as dont want to watch on a laptop.
If your laptop has an HDMI socket, this works very well.0 -

Depends a lot on what you want to watch. Netflix has a mix of series and films. Nowtv has 2 packages, 1 for film and another for series.
One advantage of Nowtv is they'll sell you a set top box for a tenner. If you want to watch Netflix and it isn't built in to your TV then you'll need say a roku at 50 quid or more (or 40 if you wait until they are on offer again). BTW this is a cheap way of getting Iplayer, ITVplayer and 4oD on unsmart TVs. Another advantage of NowTV is that you can stop and start as you want (a month at a time). So you can reduce the cost of NowTV by having a mamoth film fest one month then cancelling it for the next 3 until more good movies have arrived. IMO the number of good movies on NowTV is limited but maybe that's just because there aren't any good ones out at the moment.
Note that Amazon Prime is not available on UK Rokus, only USA versions (in the USA). Since Sky have a deal with Roku don't expect this to change. And likewise FireTV is unlikely to play Netflix or NowTV.0 -

Are you referring to Amazon FireTV? If so then it does play Netflix.0 -

Chromecast has Netflix too, I got one for £18 a few months back, full price £30. Also if someone already has a PS3 it works on that as well.0 -

You're right, it does do Netflix. It seems like everything does Netflix. It's NowTV, Amazon Prime, and others where the choice of kit limits your choice. There's no set top box I know of that does everything. Roku used to be the one that did but since the deal with sky it's more limited. In fact it probable only still runs netflix because it's a historical deal and FireTV probably had to run netflix to match.
Another technical point in favour of Netflix BTW is the number of kit you can have it on. NowTV is limited to 4 boxes only 2 of which can be running at a time. I'm not sure what Netflix limit is but it much larger.0 -
