Okay they're coming for the home inspection on Friday at 4.30pm. It's not quite as soon as I'd like but what can you do.
Says they will aim to give you the outcome within 24 hours of the visit... and the cattery is only open early on Saturday which means we may not be able to get him until next week now
This is assuming of course that we even pass the inspection which is by no means a guarantee!
I just need to focus on the (hopeful) end result0 -
Find out IN ADVANCE of the visit what the policies or criteria of the Rescue centre are.....ie do they want a cat flap, for cat to be inside at night, maximum amount of time they expect an owner to be out of the house per day etc etc
If they are visiting at all it must mean that the 'address' has passed their criteria ie you don't live ON a major road0 -

Thanks - they did actually ask a lot of questions over the phone about that kind of thing and seemed happy enough with my answers :-) so everything crossed...!!!0 -
This is my Salem! Love the fact that there are so many black cats called Salem - obviously we are all fabulous!
Well done on getting Derek Martin. Having been a cat owner my whole life, I can tell you not to waste money on cat beds! I have bought so may and they just don't use them! It might be useful to give him something unwashed of yours to sleep on - it'll get him used to your smell.
Looking forward to seeing your pics.ENFP - AssertiveOfficially in a clique of idiotsSmoke me a kipper; I'll be back for breakfast0 -

I have 3 small dogs and a black cat. Cleo the cat is 11 years old and rules the roost. She amuses us no end and sleeps on any bed she fancies. Your Derek looks very like Cleo.
I would keep Derek in for at least a week until he familiarises himself with his new home and can find his way around. I would get a catnip spray and spray his new scratching post with it and he should use the post, rather than your furniture.
Thank you for giving a rescue kitty another chance at life. You won't regret it.

What a lovely thread.
I am slave to 2 female cats, a black one called Pudding (13yr old) and a black & white one called Bob (15 yr old). I got them separately but they have both been with me since they were weeks old.
I cannot overestimate the joy they bring me and the love I feel for them. Every day when I get home they greet me (if only to 'demand' food) and I am hardly ever without Bob on my lap if I am sat down, in fact she meows until I sit down, which is a great excuse to avoid housework
They do not particularly get along, and will often take a swipe at each, but they will sit nicely next to each on the bed if I am reading; they both like to be near their slave.
Good luck with Derek, he sounds really cute and I'm sure he will be settled in before you know it. I would definitely keep him inside for at least 2 weeks to ensure he has the home scent down.0 -
Our cat came with two beds from his previous home, apparently he spent all day in them. In over 8 months I've never seen him so much as glance at either of them.
Still laughing at Derek Martin0
