I'm going to join the world of cat owners!!!!

Possibly not very helpful, but Chaos has been sick quite a bit since we got her 5 weeks ago. Vet is pretty certain it's dietary/nerves and she has started doing it less since we put her on hypoallergenic dry food. Anyway cut a long story short she seems to do it now after eating too fast. You can hear her gulping it down and practically inhaling rather than chewing and swallowing; does Derek eat fast? I think (admittedly with my limited cat-vomit knowledge) the fact he seems fine afterwards is a good sign... Fingers crossed, let us know how he gets on0
-
He doesn't usually eat too fast though he did kinda down it today! Maybe he had an extra active day out and was extra hungry... Fingers crossed that's the last of it! :-/0

I've just noticed he's got a scratch between his eye and his ear!!! Oh I don't like this, it's a dangerous world out there for a cat!! :-(0

One of my cats eats her food really fast occasionally (no idea why), and throws it up shortly after. After a couple of minutes, she's back to normal and eating again, albeit a little more slowly! I have to jump on it as soon as I can, or else my other cat runs over and eats it...
Anyway, as other posters said, as long as he's fine after and there's no blood, it's pretty normal. It's usually hair balls/eating too quickly, and it happens to one of mine every two/three months.0 -
martin - you are spending too much time 'fretting'! Derek is FINE, he is enjoying your and OHs company, he now has a lovely outside world to explore..........HIS world is perfect! now YOU enjoy it too! Relax, establish that he can go out between 'this' and 'that' hours. he will come home for his food, he knows now where it is. he is in the process of establishing HIS territory. finding out where the other 'territorial' cats are, who are friendly humans and 'not friendly' humans - he is BUSY!
but, I would get him used to spending evenings and nights with you and OH. it isn't much to ask is it? especially if he has 'playtime', 'groomtime' and 'treat time' then?
I know Derek is a 'shorthair' - my first cat Timmy was - but he did like a bit of grooming, and a friend gave me a silk hanky and told me to finish grooming with a wipe of that. it makes the fur lie flat and gives a lovely sheen. they look 'polished'!0 -
Perfectly normal Martin. Derek prob ate some grass, was extra hungry if he's been sunning himself & so gulped pouch down with too much air & up it came. Mine will over eat his dry kibble sometimes, same result. He's fine. Perhaps groom him with a comb if he'll let you - will help get rid of loose hair & help stop hairballs. Mine adores that.0

Hehe I know I'm a proper worrier.
We do brush him, he seems to enjoy it!
And yes we definitely are trying to make sure evenings is family time! He was padding at the cat flap; I picked him up and dumped him onto the sofa!0 -
One of my cats also says hello. My OH thinks I'm mad
some years ago my neighbours had a cat who I swear used to vocalise her name...............Mary! OH didn't believe me until he heard it too! the cat used to sit on the windowsill going 'Mary' until she opened the window for it to come in!
my first cat Timmy was quite vocal and one day DD and I were in the living room watching tv and OH came in from work - he yelled hello as he heard something upstairs and back came 'hellloooo', OH said 'Hello, who's upstairs?' and just got 'hellloooo' back - DD and I could hear this (OH couldn't see us), this went on for a minute or so and OH came into the living room and said 'Who is upstairs?' and we both said 'Timmy' and fell about laughing!0 -
We have the occasional pile of cat sick - last time it was in the middle of our bed. Unless they are lethargic I don't worry too much, our vet says sickness and diarrhea together is a cause for concern.
One of ours always gets sick if she eats a wasp, and the sick is bright green. Always happens, but she doesn't learn...!0 -
One of mine is sick quite a bit - she eats too quickly and it comes back looking virtually the same as it went in. Nothing to worry about, just a pain to have to clear up.
Derek sounds like he is really finding his feet and at home now. You will relax about his adventures eventually. We've all been there and stressed, but it will get better.
Don't forget he will probably have a few confrontations with the locals and need to establish his territory. What goes around comes around.....I hope!0
