He's actually banned from the bedroom... OH has a mild cat hair allergy. Doesn't bother him until cat hair gets on the bed - so it's only fair to have that one room where he can always be hair-free!

(though he has snuck in there on a couple of occasions, I've not told OH)

Yeah that's fair enough. My hubby is actually allergic to cats and bookdust, but he says he wouldn't want to be without cats or books, so he just puts up with it. I prefer not to have cats in the bedroom but when you're trying to shoo out multiple cats, it doesn't end happily, especially as one sits on the top of the wardrobe and tries to swipe if you attempt to dislodge her. I prefer not to wake up with a catbum under my nose - I live in hope ... only 5 of ours go upstairs, so it could be worse.

How do you cope with 5+ cats? One in this house is enough, she is always keeping me on my toes.

You are not known locally as that mad cat lady are you ? Lol( only joking, good on you )

What do you get if you tape a cat toy to a cat scratching post? Hours of fun!
Here's just a small snippet of Derek enjoying life :)

I've got 9 cats, and I'm a mere amateur amongst various friends who have 12-15 each :) It's too many actually, and we won't be replacing them as they pop their clogs (she says, knowing full well she's a sucker for any beastie needing a home). As long as we're down to a maximum of 2 when I retire, we'll be alright. Couldn't afford to do it on pensions.

I'm still dreading the first time we actually *need* to get him inside it...

My first cat jessie hated the box and i mean hated. Took us 20 mins once to get her in so we could take her to the vets. she once even hid behind the washer to escape it. Yet the vet & my dad could just plop her in no problems. It is a skill i say.
Salem loves the box and if it ever around he will go in it. Got him in no problem.

Our cat is mainly banned for the bedroom because he knocks everything over on my dressing table to get in the window. Sometimes he gets past us and sneaks in.

9 cats  our Salem is a handle full. We had two twice once when we had our jessie and salem before she went missing. Then we briefly looked after another cat who got rehomed in the end. Salem flipped his lid when he stayed , it was a week or so of hell.
So Salem rules the roost. I dread to think what will happen when we have a baby. He is a bit too attached to us & gets jealous easy. We will see , first sign of trouble he will have to go but he ius very loving also so i am sure he will be ok.

Love the derek vid also , about time :p

Thanks guys :-) I hope he's happy. I sometimes look into his eyes and wonder what he's thinking. Does he remember his old home, or the cattery? Does he think he's better off now? I do hope so. Still dreading the time when we have to let him outside for the first time :-/

I'm sure he's very happy, he certainly looks it.

He will remember his old home but there's no way of knowing if he misses it. We moved house with our cat, then moved back to the previous house 3 years later. He knew exactly where he was when we brought him back in, although the house would have smelled very different as there had been several other lots of people living in it in the meantime. He walked around it all giving it a good sniff and miaowing a lot. We kept him in for a couple of days but he was kicking his catflap and wanting to go out and as he so obviously knew where he was we let him out.

It was a bit of a shock for the neighbouring cats when Merlin appeared on the scene again and resumed his position as top cat in the street.

We lost him 2 years ago yesterday at the age of 20. Still so terribly missed.

    ????? Seriously?

Pick out that part ,riiiight My salem is the world to me and is a huge comfort in my life.
But I can worry about the future implications of having my cat who can get jealous and is very attached to the two people he loves if we have a child.
But Salem is a very loving cat and i am sure will be totally fine and he will be with us until his very last breath. So making your random comment and not backed up with my full quote pointless. Also i know there is advice available to introudce cats & babies.

Anyway back to lovely derek who this is about. I forgot to say in my last post. Adding the toy to the post is a good idea , i might steal it at some point :p
