Hi all.
Abundant - you are on fire this month.
Thriftylass - good to see you back, hope you and baby are well.
SiannieLaz - Well done on making some money on Avon, I know you worked hard for that.
Today will be my first SFD. I managed to get 13 last month and my target was 16, it's the first time I haven't reached or exceeded it so will put that behind me and move on.Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler

To be honest, I find it hard to do less than #50 oer week, once you add in washing powder and toilet paper and all the things that add up! But I will rethink and try for #200.
When I started budgeting properly again back in October I was £250 per month for me and Mr Mooo and our (fat and spoiled) cat.
Now I'm down to £150 which includes all food, toiletries, household cleaning stuff and cat food/litter.
It's doable, just go down in small amounts and keep all your receipts for the first month so you can see where your money is going. Try downshifting brands to see if you can cope with supermarket-brand for somethings.
Good luck!0 -
Thanks Moomin - it is great to know it can be done!
You are right - it's all in the detail (and..erm..the diet coke which I REALLY MUST NOT BUY ANYMORE) - will make a plan and a list to shop on saturday, then have a look through the receipt afterwards and work out what needs to change for the following week.Mortgage December 2023: TBC

Morning tributes.
This might not mean anything to anyone but everytime I say tributes in my head I get a band called tenacious d singing "this is just a tribute". It makes me giggle anyways so thought I would tell you.
Have failed quite spectacularly in that not only is today not a sfd... I also only just planned my budgets today which is one of the rules. Oh dear.
My current plan is pretty simple and in the sig below.
Food budget = £116.
Food bank = £4.
Petrol budget = £50.
Saving pots = £100.
I do have a confession... I know the rule about them fan-daby-dozy shops but I am out with my mum, auntie and cousin today so I will be going into them.
However, I have budgetted myself £60 and when it's gone, it's gone. There will be no more and I am hoping there will be some leftover. This is a big step for me as this is when I normally blow all my money and have to borrow off my dad for the rest of the month so I know £60 is a lot but it is me trying to restrict myself.
Please don't throw me out already kat. I will do better for the rest of the month, I promise.Mortgage: £0/£80,329.91

This month I shall work my money backwards - instead of adding up to the budgetted amount, I'll be subtracting down. I hope this will enable me to not spend it all! I'll go back to working with cash too, as I used my debit card too much - for me - last month.
I have extra childcare and travelling costs this month. But I also have some extra work, moderating for the exam board. That money will go straight into savings.
I shall not spend, I shall eat 10 veg/fruit every day as well as posting on here, getting lots of sweaty exercise, selling and knitting. I'll make a point of being grateful every day and appreciating just how many good things I have in my life.
And probably my greatest challenge is to find 2 bday presents for dd's friends this month, plus 4 adults at the start of June. My dad and sister are 2 of them and I want to get something thet's 'just right'. I hope to get them all for an average of £10 each...
Stewby - I giggle at the name 'tributes' too as I feel like a pop band!
Calling, I love your comment: New lodger appearing this evening hopefully get some dosh off her. Made me giggle at the idea of you waiting for her, hand held out and an expectant look on your face!!!!!

afternoon all-
goals-
sfd- 15
ltw- everyday im at work
weight- loose 6lbs
some small things im going to do-- back off the sugar!!! trying to give it up until holiday. will help with frittering money! also means i wont keep throwing my bananas away!
- get back to the gym! will assist with giving up sugar!
- leave my purses at home when at work (although did this on tuesday and spent my £1 i keep in my bag for my trolley. its gone now so cant make that mistake again!)
was going to do a complicated system of working out how much i needed to save towards my goals each month and then overpay half of anything thats left to mortgage and other half to use for emergency fund but think thats a bit complicated! have now decided to save all money not budgeted towards savings goals to achieve them quicker and then will start towards the others!
so first target is to save £550 for electric work im getting done next week. i have around £310 so will 'borrow' the rest from money budgeted for my mortgage payment that doesnt go out until 17th and replace it with money coming in over next two weeks.
next target also to be achieved in may is to save £100 for my holiday (£70 spends and £30 petrol). will hopefully get £100 birthday money early to make up spends).
should hopefully end month with around £150 left in account towards goal 3 which is £3000 saved for india
i cant pay all my money at the beginning of the month as most of it comes in from my pay on 19th and lodger on 20th. then the rest comes in dribs and drabs throughout the month. however i have a separate account for extra money. on payday i know how much i have budgeted for the month and i transfer the extra to this account. i only use the money in that account for savings goals so i suppose i do ensure it is all saved:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j0 -
targets for May:
groceries £0/£200
kitties £0/£50 (getting their own budget this month!)
entertainment £0/£100 (extravagant I know)
sfds 1/15
savings £0/£500
Bloomin' cats take me over my grocery budget every month so they have their own this month
A few meals out planned for this month hence the large fun budget.
Looking at my May/June wage (payday 16th May) I should be able to save £500 at least this month.0 -
Ok, here we go.
As you know, I share food expenses with Him Indoors so the food budget remains ringfenced as he'll come back and say "you owe me £2" or something along those lines.;)
I've looked at how much money I have coming in this month and next month: there's less guaranteed income next month, so I need to batten down the hatches.
Touring schedules mean 4 bands turn up this month; tickets already bought earlier in the year, just needing transport. 2 days out for Mayday and visits to Mum's.
Anyway, 15 SFD's, 15 gym visits and a daily check in.
At work for 6 days: lunches will be taken for all 6 days.
£20 max on business spends as there's enough stock till August.
Spent £10 on books inc Kindle so will work on reducing that total.
Birthday meal postponed from April to this month so that needs to be factored in.
