  • Has anyone got the Bread Keeper? Is it any good or do I avoid like the plague?

Is there a cheaper alternative elsewhere?

I have it and it's great. The only thing is it doesn't fit the largest size of loaf from the panny. But I usually make the middle size one so i'm ok, but then the bread only lasts 24hrs anyway so maybe it was a waste of money in the first place lol! Must look at the lasting bread bags though, you can't put hot bread in the breadkeeper.

I bought some of those cotton bags for putting bread in and they seem to work well. First saw these on hol in FRance and the bread there goes stale very quickly. I have two bags one for fruit loaf and one for ordinary - both keeping bread going for 5 days at least.

I bought this not too long ago, to go with my Panasonic BM:D It keeps the bread very well, ....but my complaint would be we like very crisp, crusty bread, and the crust goes soft in this. Still you can't have everything. Probably too late a reply to help you.

A very enthusiastic vote for the Actifry. It's expensive (£149.99) so not very OS but as I use it 2 - 3 times a week I feel I'm getting my money's worth & saving on putting the oven on.
My DH loves chips so I used to buy oven chips to keep them low fat. I can now make fabulous home made ones that taste like fried but are as low fat as oven chips.
I also use it to 'roast' root vegetables. It really concentrates the flavours & they come out tasting wonderful but again, very low fat. We had a mixture of celeriac & sweet potato the other evening & it was heavenly, DH hates parsnips but he'll eat them cooked in the Actifry.
I'm making HM pizza for dinner tonight & am going to roast some garlic, mushrooms & peppers to go on the top. YUM.

My favourite item from Lakeland is the wooden toast tongs - was always terrified that the children would stick a knife in the toaster for small items like crumpets that don't pop-up much over the slot so got this/these (not sure whether it should be singular or plural :rotfl:), had them for several years and they're great!

I'm sure they'll be others things once I put my mind to it as it's one of my favourite shops ;)

I known someone else mentioned it, but the magic non-stick liner is fabulous!

I hate having to wash up a baking sheet when its only had a couple of biscuits on it, so I use this instead. Wipe it down after use and its good to go again.

I found it works as a liner for a tray bake tin too. Cut it so it hangs over each side and you can lift your cake out really easily.
