I'm a little lost - BA do not fly to Siem Reap?

I would look at booking returns to BKK then doing the rest on low cost carriers. I think your itinerary is too much for two weeks.

If you fancy it, you're very welcome.:D Hope this is clear:

We're going to visit friends in Phnom Penh.

OH has 2nd - 16th August for holidaying. Back at work on 18th August as not allowed more than 2 weeks off.
We don't want to spend any time more than transit in Bangkok.
We know we will be doing overland travel.
OH wants to go to Siem Riep as he hasn't been before.
Want to get to Ho Chi Min as well.
Hubby looking to leave me and kids in Ho Chi Min so we can keep going through Vietnam. Us 3 probably will come back somewhere around 26th-28th August.

Current thinking and pricing is favouring going (BKK maybe onto) Siem Riep (4 days max) - PP (no more than 5 days) - Ho Chi Min (leave hubby at airport on 16th) - Hanoi

So looking at Lon-Siem Riep all 4 of us (where you get the crazy single/return prices)

Lon - Bangkok (singles and returns)
    Hanoi - Lon (singles)
Ho Chi Min - Lon (singles)

Monmodo has been very helpful with the update service on all this.

    Good luck on your quest!

Surely whar you want is open-jaw/multi city flights, not singles?
Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the end

Yes, I think the OP is confusing a codeshare with a BA operated flight. They're not going to have the same plane all the way!

Here's another example of a one way

    Heathrow (London) - Madrid - Saturday 07 March 2015
Departs 06:20 07 Mar Carrier British Airways
Arrives 09:35 07 Mar Cabin Euro Traveller
    Flight BA0456

    Price
    £415.13 1 passenger

    It's stupid.

The BA economy flight to Bangkok is more expensive than the BA economy flight to Siem Riep which is using exactly the same plane and the same seat - the onward flight on Bangkok Airways doesn't even have economy and business on it! From when I flew it last time, it is one of those little things which is tiny and anyone over dress size 16 would have trouble squeezing up the aisle!

In the same way it can sometimes be cheaper to book a hire car or hotel with the flight than just the flight alone.

Those tiny Bangkok Airways turboprops are great fun.

I don't think that was what the OP meant. The point was that LHR-BKK-REP is cheaper than just LHR-BKK even if that part of the trip is on the same plane.

You describe inclusive tour fares, which can be cheaper than a return fare for the same route because of the differing fare booking class rules.

LHR-BKK is differently priced to LHR-xxx-REP because they are different markets.

The market for Uk-Australia flights is enormous and gives great fares and this example of the illogicality of the airline business gives great benefits to money savers.

The thing to do is to steer well clear of one way flights for long haul sectors. You need to book a Multi City Return.

I.e. You and the kids book London - Siem Reap and Hanoi - London as a multi city on the same booking; and your hubby does the same with Lon - Siem Reap / Ho chi Min - London. You then just fill in the gaps by booking the local Asia flights separately.

I've just booked some flights to the USA flying LON-YYZ and then BOS-LON with BA. Doing two one ways would have been almost £1200. But booking the exact same flights on the same ticket as a multi city was half the price.
