As mentioned just go for Navfree, its free...see what they did with the name there. Does not need any data when running either.

Or google maps and click navigate. It has up to date traffic, voice direction and very clear- however it uses data.

I use CoPilot, paid £20 and it's great

It does everything a sat nav does and have it with me all the time as it's on my phone. Only downside is it eats a lot off your battery life so got to be plugged in to the charger in the car but it's never let me down and even tells me were the speed cameras are and updates itself every now and then.

Not reliable matey. if no wifi connection.

I did have the tom-tom app on my iPhone, the maps are stored on the device and it uses GPS not mobile signal so you can be in the depth of mountains and it will be able to navigate.

I'm not recommending the tom-tom app as you want the cheapest option, and there are free apps out there as mentioned by previous posters. before you go and buy a sat nav why not try the free apps? as long as you have a working smart phone then you have a working sat nav? if you upgrade your phone every few years anyway, it's more cost effective than buying new sat navs every few years.... if the apps are not good enough ditch them and go buy a sat nav.

  • Navfree on my iphone works extremely well. No data connection needed, just gps. Hasn't let me down but being a phone as well isn't ideal, getting a text or call blocks the screen for example.

My truck sat nav was a cheap Chinese one and that has been great. I believe you can get car versions that are about £40 on eBay. These differ from the cheap Argos ones by having a big screen. People (those who have actually owned one) all seem to say good things about them, and negative stuff all came from people who were just determined to rant about Chinese meaning crap.

Anyway, that's my experience! For occasional use, Navfree on a decent smartphone is great.

Why anyone would buy an Atlas for the same price as they could buy a cheap sat nav is beyond me!

I can buy a cheap SatNav for £2, almost anywhere, that'll last indefinitely, never go flat, never lose signal or take ages to start up, and never have a sulk? Really? AND that'll show me all the available route options, which ones are most likely to be scenic, any diversions or points of interest en route - and all at a glance? Blimey. The tech HAS moved on recently.

There's even a nice easy solution to enable this option to provide a similar distraction and visibility-blocker to the way many numpties use a FatChav.

Did you look at the picture?

    "ONLY £29.99"

I've had none of those problems either, and my sat nav was about £60 3-4 years ago. My new car has one built in which is much better, but there's nothing wrong with my old one. Just plug the charger in and it'll never go flat.

As for blocking your view, I highly recommend not putting it right in front of your face.

A little common sense goes a long way. ;)

Yes, thank you. I did. Did you do more than glance at it? Clearly not, since that price is obviously not referring to the atlas, but to the offer of a "driver ready kit", £69.99 RRP, pictured. Foot pump, tow rope, hi-vis, torch, triangle, jump leads etc...

The atlas itself is usually £1.99...

I wish I lived in your world, where you never follow a car at night wondering what the heck the driver can see past the thermonuclear glow slap bang in front of their face, so bright it's even getting on your wick.
