  • My £50 Binatone from Maplin is still going strong 5+ years later. Internal battery still lasts 2 hrs, but the maps are starting to get a little out of date. I could update them if I can be bothered figure out how to.

Never had a problem with NavFree on iOS and Andoird. Maps are saved to the phone's memory, so no need for a WiFi or 3G signal to stream the map data.

Lots of Satnavs don't have a wifi connection. That's because you don't need one, all the data is stored on the device.

As already stated wifi is not necessary for some to operate.

If you have a smartphone look at Navfree - once installed (its free) no data required.

    Can't really get much cheaper.

That's not true, some apps need no data connection at all.

If you had a Wi-Fi connection that stretched the whole of your route....That would really be something..;):)
